The Syrian military has been using a ‘new’ assault vehicle, which combines the Vulkan multiple rocket launcher system and a chassis of the BMP-1 infantry combat vehicle.
Syrian military has come up how to solve a problem of shortage of heavy flame thrower systems of the TOS-1 type and other assault equipment, having armor and great destructive force, the Vestnik Mordovii informational website reported.
They have started to install guideways of the Vulkan multiple rocket launcher system, production of which is directly carried out in Syria, on a chassis of the BMP-1 infantry combat vehicle. The author of the article notices that this vehicle does not match characteristics of the Solntsepek heavy rocket launcher system, but it is much more effective than a usual rocket launcher on the basis of a truck.
According to a well-known military expert Yuri Ljamin, the Vulkans of ‘medium caliber’, about 240 mm, are used on this combat vehicle. Rocket unit of the Grad 122 mm and the Vz.51 130-mm multiple rocket launchers are mostly used for its manufacturing.
The range of such systems is small, it is only about a few kilometers. The weight of the missiles’ warheads is still unknown, but, apparently, it is about several tens of kilograms. It can cause serious damage to defensive positions of terrorists.
Military experts suggest that soon Syrians may create assault vehicle on the basis of a tank, the T-55 or the T-62, and maybe even the T-72, with more powerful rockets.
They might learn from ISIS and use their cheep homemade rockets and mortarproductions.
Its very important, that those vehicles can follow and assist the infantery. Cant see the range is that important with vehecles and ramps as this.
Ain’t sure which infantry unit these support but I’m pretty sorry for them. If not these brutal washington&co regime sanctions on syria it would be capable of purchasing professional MRLS instead of having to rely on self-made frankensteins like this.
