The United States military launched more strikes against areas controlled by the Houthis (Ansar Allah) in Yemen over the night of March 28 and 29, causing casualties.
Al-Masirah TV said that some 14 strikes hit the northern province of Sadaa, the heartland of the Houthis. Eight additional strikes targeted the province of Jawaf, next to Sadaa, with eight more targeting the southern outskirts of the capital, Sanaa, the news channel added.
A civilian was killed and at least three others were wounded in Sadaa, according to the Houthi-affiliated channel, which released footage showing some of the strikes.
The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), which is responsible for U.S. military operations in the Middle East, confirmed that its forces were “attacking Houthi positions” in Yemen via a post on the X social network, without elaborating.
Videos shared by the command showed buildings being hit by large-scale strike in an unspecified part of Yemen, as well as a fully-armed F/A-18 fighter jet taking off at night from the aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman, which has been leading operations against the Houthis from the Red Sea.
Earlier on March 28, the leader of the Houthis said that the ongoing “U.S. aggression against Yemen” will not succeed in forcing his group to halt its operations in support of the Gaza Strip.
“The U.S.escalation aims to isolate the Palestinian people, pressure those who support their cause, including Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, and even South Africa, and silence humanitarian voices in the US and Europe under the pretext of anti-Semitism,” Abdul Malik al-Houthi said during a televised speech commemorating International Quds Day.
“The U.S. and Israeli enemies commit genocide against children and women, killing infants even in hospital nurseries, and regard humans like animals,” the leader added.
CENTCOM resumed strikes against Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen on March 15 on orders from U.S. President Donald Trump, who said that the large-scale operation was launched in response to the group’s renewed attacks on shipping in the Red Sea. So far, the operation has claimed the lives of 57 people, including civilians and Houthi commanders.
Trump claimed earlier this week that the Houthis “want peace because they’re getting the hell knocked out of them.” However, the recent remarks by the group’s leader indicate that the confrontation will countinue on as long as the Israeli war on Gaza is ongoing.
