A large-scale operation the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) against ISIS cells in Deir Ezzor has entered its second day.
On February 6, the US-backed group uncovered a tunnel that was dug by the terrorist group in the town of al-Dshishah in the southeastern countryside of Deir Ezzor. The group’s cells were reportedly using the tunnel.
The operation was launched to avenge Saada al-Hermas and Hind al-Khudair, two SDF officials who were assassinated by ISIS cells in Deir Ezzor two weeks ago. Troops from the People’s Protection Units, the Women’s Protection Units and the SDF’s security forces, Asayish, are leading the operation.
According to the SDF, dozens of suspects have been arrested, so far. Loads of ammunition were also captured. Details are set to be released soon.
ISIS cells stepped up their attacks in the SDF-held part of Deir Ezzor over the last year. A number of operations by the SDF and the US-led coalition have failed to contain the terrorist group’s threat. The new operation will not likely be any different.
The SDF poor treatment of Deir Ezzor’s Arab population and the utter failure of the Kurdish-led group’s justice system, which regularly releases terrorism suspects, are hindering anti-ISIS efforts.

Well,Shammar-Bakara-Bekır-Al shaitat main tribes of Deır Ez zor and its leaders Ahmet Ebu Havle and Ebu Hatem Shakra etc. are loyal to Ypg and anti Assad.İn fact Deir-ez zor hystrorically was always loyal to Saddams baas rather than Hafız Assad baas regime. These tribe leaders and its people will not prefer Assad so easily, they are aware of fact that if they change their sides, they will be rapidly enlisted to Saa army.Sometimes they are protesting just for show-off but it will not cause to serious revolt this is a traditional loop.

If you looked hard enough you’d find the same tunnel systems on the southern side of the river. If Russia used spy satellites or airborne GP radar to locate the hidden tunnels heavy airstrikes could be used to bury all the rats underground, or at the very least bury all their equipment and supplies.
Syria has tunnels everywhere, especially along the old Silk Road route that were used by smugglers to hide their caravans and goods to avoid detection by the tax collectors.
