The deliverers of 80 Leopard 1 main battle tanks to Ukraine will begin in the middle of this year, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius revealed in an interview with Spain’s La Vanguardia that was published on April 28.
The defense minister added that the training of more than a hundred Ukrainian troops on Leopard 1 tanks began earlier this week.
“The delivery of Leopard 1 A5 main battle tanks has just begun. This is the result of the initiative of other countries together with Germany. In addition, just this week training of more than a hundred Ukrainian military on Leopard 1 began. Delivery of up to 80 Leopard 1 main battle tanks will begin in the middle of the year,” Pistorius said.
In February, the German federal government approved the export of 178 Leopard 1A5 main battle tanks to Ukraine, most of which were purchased from FFG and Rheinmetall stocks in a joint deal with the Netherlands and Denmark.
The Leopard 1, which first entered service in the 1960s, is the forerunner of the more advanced Leopard 2. The tank is armed with a 105 mm Royal Ordnance L7A3 L/52 rifled gun. It features moderate armor, only effective against low caliber autocannons and heavy machine guns.
The A5 version set to be delivered to Ukraine is equipped with a day\night capable targeting systems, comparable to the ones installed in early Leopard 2 versions.
Germany became one of the backers of the Kiev regime after the beginning of the Russian special military operation more than a year ago.
Ukraine received in recent weeks dozens of Leopard 2 tanks from Germany and other NATO members. The decision to supply the German-made tanks and other Western models was taken to prepare Kiev forces for a large-scale offensive against the Russian military.

Germany think they know better, that they are smarter than anyone else. Every single time, they lose and cry anyway. After they will consolidate their role as a NATO lapdog, they will be always on the recieving end an never in the position to influence anything.

Historians and people in general wonder how and why world wars happen. I think it is now fairly plain and after two such wars we can assume it’s the stupidity and malfeasance of those who we allow to rule over us. It is they who demand our children do or die. They don’t care who’s kids. It’s also very plain that these charlatans that currently rule over us are the real enemy.

That are pieces of crap good only for bombarding without LOS. Already counted as dead on the battlefield. And russians mitigate that shit with theirs Armata exceptional tanks entering battlefield. Of course in non combat situations: they have a lot of new original hardware improvements which can’t go to enemy.
According to Col. MacGregor and Scott Ritter, the Leopard tanks that have arrived in Ukraine are already broken down. I doubt these rolling piles of garbage will ever make it to the front. Besides being broken down, Russia blows up the warehouses where they are stored in Ukraine. What few do manage to somehow make it to the Donbass will be inevitably be blown sky high, or break down on the way there. Ukraine has no support or logistics in place for these tanks. The different ammunition used the different versions on the tanks is also a logistical nightmare.
The only winner here is Rheinmetall. Against an equal adversary like Russia these upgraded Tiger tanks are driving coffins as long as you do not clear out the skies. Because I notice the videos on this site are often coming from Russian drones and flying bombs. And after the drones the crews have to survive missiles, mines, grenades, molotov cocktails and weapon systems that destroy a complete soccer field in one instant. There are no family members from politicians or bankers fighting, otherwise the Minsk agreements were put in place already. Peace for everybody and good day!
