In a surprise move, Denmark is set to deploy troops in northeastern Syria to support U.S.-led coalition operations in the war-torn country.
The country’s Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen announced on September 6 that the Danish military will send a medical team, a combat battalion, a warship and four fighter aircraft with support personnel for operations in Syria.
The Pentagon welcomed Frederiksen’s announcement, claiming that the Danish forces will be participating in anti-ISIS efforts.
“The United States welcomes the announcement by the Danish Government to make a military deployment to Syria in support of Operation Inherent Resolve and to continue to share the burden and responsibilities of this important mission … Our Danish partners will work with the residual U.S. military force in northeast Syria to support stability and security,” an official statement by the Pentagon reads.
Several reports had revealed that Washington was pressuring NATO members to increase their contribution to the U.S.-led coalition.
Denmark has been a member of the U.S.-led coalition, since its formation in 2014. Danish warplanes operating within the coalition participated in the infamous attack on Syrian troops defending Deir Ezzor from ISIS in 2016.
The U.S.-led coalition is operating in northeastern Syria without approval of the country’s legitimate government, or any authorization by the UN Security Council.
So the Danes are going to continue their invasion of Syria.
To what end?

1) Bidrag til indsatsen mod IS Danmark vil sende et kirurghold fra Forsvaret til en koalitionsbase i det nordøstlige Syrien. Holdet består 14 personer, der som læger, sygeplejersker, behandlere og støttepersonel kan yde avanceret traume- og lægehjælp.
Regeringen mener, det danske lægehold vil gøre stor gavn, og ifølge Mette Frederiksen og forsvarsminister Trine Bramsen (S) er bidraget efterspurgt af partnerne i den internationale koalition.
2) Bidrag til NATO-styrker Truslen udefra er alvorlig, lyder det fra Mette Frederiksen. Derfor vil Danmark yde et væsentligt beredskabsbidrag til NATO’s nye forsvarsstyrker.
Det drejer sig om en kampbataljon med cirka 700 personer, et større krigsskib med cirka 170 personer samt fire kampfly med støttepersonel.

– Det er en meget urolig region, der er arnested for terror, radikalisering, ekstremisme og ruterne til den illegale migration. Det er alt sammen noget, der kan true Danmark, lyder det fra den danske statsminister.

We have fighting troops and they are educated and equipped well forfighting as needed. We are in the Brittish level and by F16s as well as the ones using F16s today, and thats many.
