The military conflict in Ukraine has taken another step towards nuclear war. Russian military and diplomatic channels raised the alarm on the upcoming nuclear provocation of the Kiev regime with the use of the so-called “dirty bomb”. Kiev and its Western partners have traditionally responded, accusing Russia of trying to throw responsibility on Kiev for a possible Russian strike with a low-power nuclear warhead.
The ‘dirty bomb’ constitutes a container with radioactive isotopes and explosive charge. In case of exploding the charge, the container is to be destroyed, and the radioactive substance is to be pulverised by a blast wave that produces radioactive contamination at large areas, and can cause a radiation morbidity.
Both warring sides have the means necessary to create such weapons and deploy them on a battlefield. Nevertheless, only one of the parties has launched an information campaign, justifying the necessity of the transition of the conflict to the stage of nuclear war, and only one of the parties has repeatedly demonstrated its readiness to cause a nuclear catastrophe to achieve its own military goals. This is the Kiev regime.
While the war in Ukraine had the status of an anti-terrorist operation against the Russian-speaking population and before the start of Russian military operations on the territory of Ukraine, President Zelensky announced his intention to restore Ukraine as a nuclear-weapon state in his speech at the Munich Security Conference on February 19, 2022.

Most recently, the AFU deployed 37 boats with military personnel, including 12 vessels of heavy and 25 of light types, in another attempt to land troops on the left bank of the Kakhovsky reservoir and seize the territory of the NPP. The Ukrainian military suffered losses during an attempt of provocation. According to the Russian Defence Ministry, the AFU lost more than 90 servicemen and 14 boats, and “the remnants of the landing were scattered by artillery fire in the waters of the Kakhovsky reservoir.”
On October 18, Vladimir Rogov, a representative of the administration of the Zaporozhye region, said that in two days the Russian military had identified about ten sabotage groups that tried to cross the front line from different directions.
On October 12, Ukraine has stopped supplying electricity for the needs of the Zaporozhye NPP. As a result, the staff again switched to backup generation sources to ensure all the processes at the plant.
Russia has revealed plans of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to undermine the dam in Novaya Kakhovka, which is also constantly shelled by Ukrainian artillery, including by the US-made HIMARS MLRS. In the case of success, the AFU will cut off the Russian grouping deployed on the right bank of the Dnieper River; but the disaster will lead to the destruction of dozens of settlements, including the city of Kharkiv. So, in order to protect the civilian population, the Russian military and the administration of the region began a voluntary evacuation of residents to the left bank of the Dnieper and then to the territory of Russia.
The undermining of the dam of the Kakhovskaya HPP by the Kiev regime will also create great risks for the operation of the power units of the Zaporozhye NPP.

Over 22,000 fuel assemblies (21,284 and 1,692 respectively) are stored at the inoperable Chernobyl nuclear power plant with radioactive waste repositories, as well as products that suppose using Uranium-235 and Plutonium-239 that constitute the backbone of a nuclear charge.
More than 50,000 m³ of radioactive waste that are also apt as the backbone for creating the ‘dirty bomb’ can be stored at the recently established enterprise ‘Vektor’ designed for radioactive waste reprocessing at the radioactive waste disposal sites ‘Buryakovka’, ‘Podlesny’, and ‘Rossokha’ at Pridneprovsky chemical plant.
Moreover, the Eastern Mining and Processing Plant extracts uranium ore at two of the three shafts with a capacity of up to 1,000 tonnes per year (the plant includes three shafts for extracting uranium ore, two of them – Ingulskaya and Smolinskaya – are operable, while one of them – Novokonstantinovskaya – is currently under construction).
It is also to be emphasised that Ukraine has at its disposal a scientific base: the Kharkov Institute of Physics and Technology. Its scientists were involved in the nuclear programme of the USSR where various testing systems are still in operation, including Uragan thermonuclear systems. The second base is the Institute for Nuclear Research of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine located in Kiev. Its BBP-M reactor is used for research that supposes the employment of high-activity radioactive materials.

Moscow organized the visit of the IAEA mission to the NPP. The Russian military ensured the safety of the employees of the international organization as well as of the staff of the plant, despite Kiev’s attempts to disrupt their work
Today, President Vladimir Putin, Russian military and political departments are in close contact with representatives of the IAEA, including the head of the organization, Rafael Grossi. On October 24, Moscow confirmed the joint work on the creation of a security zone around the Zaporozhye NPP. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said that the parameters of the security zone are being discussed, and that Moscow is ready to coordinate them with the IAEA.
