Late on June 12, militants who were recently displaced from the city of Ma`arat al-Nu`man clashed with locals in the town of Salqin in northern Idlib.
According to opposition sources, the conflict started when a local man from Salqin assaulted a displaced civilian from Ma`arat al-Nu`man for setting a food stand near his shop. The man was beaten up by a crowd of locals, who went on to attack apartments rented by civilians from Ma`arat al-Nu`man.
In response to the incident, militants from Ma`arat al-Nu`man stormed Salqin. Heavy clashes broke out inside the town for a few hours. No casualties were reported, however.
Eventually, al-Qaeda-affiliated Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) dispatched a large security force to Salqin and a ceasefire was imposed.
Local figures from Salqin and Ma`arat al-Nu`man reached on June 13 an agreement to settle the dispute. Under the agreement, everyone involved in the incident will be released.
Salqin’s clashes are an example of the state of lawlessness prevailing over Greater Idlib. Under HTS’ rule, crimes and conflicts became very common in the region. All of this is taking place under the eyes of Turkey, that maintains a large presence in the region.
“Heavy clashes for several hours” but no human losses?

As a result multiple IEDs gone off at the city center, demolishing the main square and exploding several gas pipes, which started great fires melting stone. Thankfully, no human losses were reported……
