Donald Trump: I would consider recognizing Crimea as Russian territory

According to Donald Trump, he would consider recognizing Crimea as Russian territory and lifting the sanctions against Russia, if he is elected president.

The statement was made during a wide-ranging news conference on Wednesday, in response to a question about the presidential candidate’s position on the Crimea and Russia.

The Crimean Peninsula has been a part of Ukraine for decades, but after Kiev’s government was toppled by a revolt, residents of Crimea held a referendum, according to which the majority voted for joining Russia. In March 2014 Crimea became a part of Russia.

The EU and the US have refused to recognize the referendum and the annexation. As result, sanctions on Russian state banks and corporations have been enforced by the US and the EU.

During the same news conference, Donald Trump suggested Russia should hack Hillary Clinton’s email server to “find the 30,000 emails that are missing.” The remark has been harshly criticized, and the Clinton campaign said it has now become a national security issue.

In other words, we have a US presidential candidate that would consider living in reality.
