The event took place at al-Mahjoorah Battalion
Dozens of Jabhat Fatah al-Sham (formerly Jabhat al-Nusra, the Syrian al-Qaeda branch) and linked-groups members were killed during their failed attempt to break the Syrian army’s defenses at the abadonned al-Mahjoorah Battalion military camp near the militant-controlled town of Ibtaa in the Syrian province of Daraa last night.
Jabhat Fatah al-Sham and its allies attack the Syrian army’s positions at al-Mahjoorah Battalion from the western direction and initially entered the military camp’s area. However, they faced a stiff response by Syrian troops and were pushed to retreat.
According to pro-government forces over 40 militants were killed. Pro-militant media outlets confirm 26 killed in action terrorists:
- 7 from Jabhat Fatah al-Sham
- 10 from Jaish al-Muhajireen wal-Ansar (the group pleged an alliance to Jabhat Fatah al-Sham in September 2015)
- 5 from Jaysh Yarmuk
- 2 from Fallujah Horan
- 2 from Jund al-Malahim

Massive mistake not to take Ibtaa and Dael after securing Sheik Miskeen, that would’ve secured two roads to Dara’a. Now they’re pissing in the wind.
ye, but you have to defend them as well. We don’t have any valid intel to make guesses on their tactics.
They attacked this particular area thinking easy victory… Turned out the place was loaded with SAA, and was night equipped too apparently. Or the SAA had a heads up that they were coming.
As I said, this is farcical, a damp distraction; from where they attacked, the SAA should’ve taken it long ago.

More has come out. Turned out SAA ambushed these guys as they were travelling down the road to the “abandoned regiment”. They never saw it coming, or saw the army base.
Speaking of posing with dead opposition fighters, the lack of posing with foot on corpse, posing with cut heads, or jumping on corpses needs to be noted as good, professional military conduct of Syrian military.
