The Afghanistan Air Force (AAF) carried out a twin air raid in Kunduz targeting a Taliban base.

According to Taliban and Kunduz officials, more than 40 Taliban fighters and at least 12 civilians are said to have been killed as a result of the airstrikes carried out on Saturday.

A Defense Ministry spokesperson said that more than 40 Taliban fighters were killed in the strikes.

On September 20, at least 6 rockets were launched at the US military airfield in the district of Daman of the Afghan province of Kandahar. It is highly likely that the attack was a response to the airstrikes.

The tensions grow in Afghanistan amid the intra-Afghan talks. The government and the Taliban are discussing conditions for peace establishment in Doha.

The recent military developments in Afghanistan on September 20:

  • Clashes between ANDSF and Taliban were reported in the Farsi area, Herat province;
  • ANDSF detonated an IED in Nad Ali district, Helmand province;
  • ISIS carried out an IED attack on Afghan police vehicle in the city of Jalalabad.

Probably, the U.S., who is taking an active part in Doha talks, in fact, is not interested in peace establishment in Afghanistan. Two days before the airstrikes, on September 17, the U.S. transferred four A-29 Super Tocano warplanes to the Afghan Air Force (AAF) during a ceremony in the Afghan capital, Kabul.

Taking into account a growing number of attacks in the recent few days as well as law efficiency of intra-Afghan talks, the stabilization of the situation in the country should not be expected in the near future.
