On May 3, the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) launched a ground attack on the ISIS-held town of Hajin in the southeastern Deir Ezzor countryside, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR).
The SDF announced on May 1 that its units, backed by the US-led coalition, will resume its military operations against the remaining positions of ISIS in the governorates of Deir Ezzor and al-Hasakah.
The US-backed forces have not captured any positions around Hajin yet. However, the SDF media center announced that dozens of local ISIS fighters had surrendered to the SDF around the town. Reportedly the number of the surrendered ISIS member is thirty.
The SDF media center also revealed that the US-led coaltion had supplied the SDF with new weapons and military equipment in order to support its new military operations against ISIS.
ISIS fighters have not launched any operations against the US-backed forces yet. However, local observers believe that the SDF will face strong resistance from in the area. Earlier this year, ISIS members repelled two attacks by the US-led forces on Hajin.
