On July 20, warplanes of the Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS) carried out more than 50 airstrikes on ISIS cells in Syria’s central region, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

“Six Russian jets took turns tageting caves and bunkers in the eastern countryside of Hama, Maadan desert in Raqqah, the eastern desert of Homs as well as the vicinity of Jabal al-Bishrī on the administrative border between Raqqah and Deir Ezzor,” the London-based monitoring group said in a report.

The monitoring group said that ISIS sustained human losses as a result of the Russian airstrikes without providing any details.

ISIS cells have been working to expand their influence in central Syria for a while now. Over the last few months, the terrorists launched dozens of attacks on government forces and civilians in eastern Homs, eastern Hama, southern Aleppo, southern Raqqa and western Deir Ezzor.

Syrian government forces, backed by the VKS, continue to operate against ISIS cells on several frontlines in the central region. Recently, large reinforcements were deployed in the region to support new combing operations.

Recent combing operations and Russian airstrikes inflicted some heavy human and material losses on ISIS cells in the central region. Yet, the terrorists remain active there. The terrorists have been reportedly receiving support from US-backed fighters based in the southeastern area of al-Tanf.

They will just be continually replaced until the USSA is forced out of the Al Taniff region.
