On April 24 afternoon, an unidentified drone targeted a tanker anchored off Syria’s main oil terminal in the town of Banias.
In an official statement, the Ministry of Oil and Natural Resources said that the hostile drone came from the direction of Lebanon’s waters. The ministry also said that a fire caused by the strike was put down by the tanker’s crew.
“Firefighters controlled by the fire which erupted in one of the oil tanker’s sections off the oil terminal in Banias,” the statement reads.
The France-Press Agency, AFP, reported that the targeted tanker is Iranian, without providing any additional information on the incident.

Some observers alleged that the targeted tanker is the Iranian-owned WISDOM, which sails under the flag of Panama. The tanker was one of four Iranian tankers which were escorted by the Russian Navy to Syria earlier this month.
The attack was most certainly carried out by Israel in response to the April 13 attack on the Hyperion Ray vessel. The Israeli-owned vessel was attacked off the shores of Fujairah, the UAE. Back then, Iran was blamed for the attack.
Israel and Iran have been locked up in covert war for years. Over the last year, Tel Aviv escalated its covert operations. On April 11, an act of sabotage plotted by the Israeli intelligence hit Iran’s main uranium enrichment plant.

I don’t like seeing oil tankers get hit, as it can hurt the environment and the sea animals which for me, worth alot more than some terroristic IRGC lives. I’d rather have the high command order us to raid the ship, much more efficient.
What would stop Iranians doing the same in the Strait of Hormuz? These are low yield strikes from both sides, a serious hit would criple or sink a ship. These are warning strikes, going back and fort, waiting who will chicken out first. Both sides will assume escort Navy ships to protect the tankers pretty soon. And that will be the end of it. Iran can inflict more damage on more ships, its just counterproductive to keep pushing. Its also bad PR, striking or raiding civilian ships is called piracy… It will either be a major war or both sides will just deescalate.

Not exactly Tommy, I do eat meat but not so much as my diet is more based on proteins like fish, chicken and vegetables. I do like animals, and I think we should eat them only if we don’t have no other choice, so i am against hunting them for money. People should understand that nature is our most important asset, without it there is no humanity.
We had an oil spillage few weeks ago which contaminated our entire coastline of 160KM, most probably due to of an Iranian oil tanker. That is why I’m against hitting those shipments, but I have no problem raiding their ships and kill every last one of them if we are ordered to.
