Drones will be tripled by 2020, predicts the FAA

It is reported that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) of the USA predicted some seven million drones will fly in the US by 2020. It also said that there will be around 2.5 million drones hovering over the US sky by the end of 2016. So, in 4 years, the number of drones will be tripled.

“Unmanned aircraft systems will be the most dynamic growth sector within aviation,” said the FAA.

However, the FAA passed rules last December calling for registration of small unmanned aircraft weighing more than 250 grams and less than 25 kilograms including payloads such as onboard cameras. The FAA added that predictions for commercial drones “are more difficult to develop given the dynamic, quickly-evolving nature of the market.”

According to the FAA estimation, in the year 2020, an average cost of the drone fleet will be 2500USD and 40000 USD for the most expensive ones.

However, the US has been claiming that the drones target only terrorists, but many reports suggested that civilians have been the main victims of the unmanned airstrikes. The US military also has been using drones in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Libya, Iraq, and Yemen.
