Cairo condemns the incursion of Turkish armed forces into Iraq’s territory and demands its withdrawal, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt Sameh Shoukry said during Thursday’s emergency meeting of the LAS (League of Arab States).

“We condemn Ankara’s incursion into Iraq’s territory and we demand withdrawal of its forces.” said Shoukry.

The Foreign Ministers of the LAS gathered this Thursday in the organisation’s headquarters in Cairo for an emergency meeting to discuss the presence of Turkish military in Iraq.

According to the Iraqi government, on December 4th Turkish military personnel, accompanied by armored vehicles, entered Iraq’s Nineveh province, under the pretext of training the fighters of the people’s resistance squads, fighting terrorists.

Iraq’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs along with the Ministry of Defense called the presence of the Turkish Armed Forces an “act of aggression” that undermined Iraq’s sovereignty. According to mass media there are 150 Turkish soldiers there.

This was a bit unexpected.
