On November 23, the Egyptian Ministry of Interior announced that security forces cracked down three cells of “Liwa al-Thuwar”, the armed wing of the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood (MB) party.
The Egyptian Ministry of Interior said that the MB cells were planning to carry out terrorist attacks against the Egyptian Army and Police. The cells planned the attack upon order from MB leaders who live outside of Egypt, according to the ministry.
The Egyptian security forces raided three positions of the MB cells in the district of al-Salam in Cairo province, in the village of Umm al-Shuawr in Kafr El Sheikh province and in the area of Nubariya in Beheira province.
During the raid the Egyptian security forces killed three members of the cells after, they had opened fire, and arrested nine others. Two VBIEDs, large amount of explosives and weapons were captured.
The Egyptian security forces arrested a spy cell linked to the Turkish intelligence on November 22, and accused it of harming the national interests of the country.
After the 2013 Egyptian coup d’état, the Egyptian authorities accused many MB leaders of treason and working for the Qatari and Turkish intelligence, including former Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi. The Egyptian MB respnoded with terrorist operations against the Egyptian Army and Police.
