On August 25 morning, seven militants of al-Qaeda-affiliated Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), the de-facto ruler of the northwestern Syrian region of Greater Idlib, were killed when the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) targeted their vehicle.
The militants’ vehicle was reportedly targeted with an anti-tank guided missile. The strike took place near the town of Kafr Taal in the western Aleppo countryside.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that a second vehicle of HTS was targeted in the same area. The London-based monitoring group speculated that the death toll could rise as several other militants were critically wounded in the missile strike.
In the afternoon, it was reported that another militant of HTS was killed when the SAA shelled several positions of the terrorist group in the northern Lattakia countryside.
The SAA and the Russian military group in Syria escalated their strikes on Greater Idlib in recent days, killing or wounding dozens of militants from HTS and its allies. The strikes were carried out in response to repeated violations of the ceasefire in the region, which was brokered by Russia and Turkey more than three years ago.
The last wave of Russian strikes on Greater Idlib took place on August 24. The strikes targeted the village of Shindrish in the western Idlib countryside, a stronghold of the HTS-allied Turkistan Islamic Party. According to Sputnik, 25 militants of the Uyghur-led terrorist group, including senior commanders, were killed in the attack.
