Eight months have passed since the beginning of the Russian special military operation in Ukraine. In recent weeks, the front lines in the eastern and southern regions have been gripped by heavy positional battles. At the same time, none of the opposing sides managed to advance. The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) continue to strengthen their positions in the Kherson, Zaporozhye and Kharkov regions, while the Russian military repels all Ukrainian attacks in these regions, steadily advancing in the Donbass.
On October 24, the Russian Ministry of Defence reported that Russian forces repelled attacks by the AFU in four directions. Ukrainian attempts to break through Russian defences in the Kupyansk, Krasny Liman, southern Donetsk and Nikolayev-Krivoy Rog directions failed.
In the Kharkov region, the AFU launched several attacks at once. Up to three motorized infantry companies of the AFU attempted to advance from their positions east of Kupyansk and attack Russian forces near the settlements of Pershotravnevoye, Orlyanka and Berestovoye. Local sources reported that the attack was carried out by servicemen of the the Ukrainian 71st chasseurs brigade, reinforced by two companies of the Special Operations Forces. According to the Russian Defence Ministry, about 25 Ukrainian soldiers were killed, one tank, five armored personnel carriers and four pickups were destroyed. Ukrainian units were forces to step back to their military positions.

In the area of Krasny Liman, the AFU continue to prepare for a large-scale offensive on the town of Kremennaya from several directions. Ukrainian forces are reinforcing their positions along the Torskoye-Terny line to the west of Kremennaya. The Ukrainian military is expected to continue their attacks in order to take control of the heights to the west of Chervonopopoka which would let them deliberately shell the strategically important road used for the Russian military supplies in the region.
At the same time, the battalion of the 54th Separate Mechanized Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine launched an offensive operation near the village of Belogorovka, located south of Kremennaya. The operation also did not lead to any territorial gains.

Meanwhile, the AFU are shelling the Kakhovskaya HPP. Ukrainian militants are actively shelling the town of Novaya Kakhovka in the Kherson region.
