Emancipation Park

By Mikaprok for SouthFront

As we all know a couple of weeks ago small town in Virginia became a focal point of the Great Evil. Charlottesville got overnight the status of a legend.

Since April 2017 there’s been permanent discussion on Robert E. Lee monument status. It could be seen as an overrated and overreacted dilemma, if there weren’t so much local renamings and statues’ demolishions across the country in the last two years.

This particular bronze rider caused a grotesque carnival.

A month ago the police dispersed tear gas and water from the cannons over the seasonal workers dressed in white caps, pretending to be KKK. Some time after the memory erased this travesty, the march Unite the Right was announced.

All of a sudden neatly sheared hipsters filled the streets of Charlottesville. In this evening the fire was both in hearts and on sticks with metal knobs.

Simultaneously the Antifa movements were prepared for its event. On Saturday right and left were nearby and collision was unavoidable. There are two points, which I would like to say in connection with this.

First one: How it happened, that a hero of the civil war Robert E. Lee became the symbol of the KKK?

The answer is: accidentally, as part of the complex history of the American South.

Within the framework of the local education system of the United States, history textbooks have reedited at minimum three times during the long XX century.

For example, until the 1950s and 1960s, when the last generation of the “American dream” citizens was being taught in schools, the southern states (Texas, Virginia and South Carolina) practiced teaching not only federal history, but also gave some information about their native land.

The generals of the Confederation Lee, Jackson and Stuart were considered as heroes of their states.

After all, there was no single country at the time. Brothers in arms defended their own lives, being in the minority. They fought and died not because of the ideals of the slave trade, which by that time was already going to the past, but because of the redistribution of power and land ownership.

As usual.

There are no good and bad sides. It is ordinary armed conflict in the world history.

Since that history is written by the winner, and all the sins are attributed to the dead loser, then in addition to all the moral aspects, it was decided to bury the generic stain of Americans – slavery with the southern history.

In the 1980s, history textbooks of the South appears as a emanent “Django Unchained” and the North as a democratic philosophical idyll.

All today’s perturbations have been growing from that moment.

The decision was made long ago, and it is pointless to resist it today by brute force.

Another question arises: why not go further?

The monument of Confederate President Davis in New Orleans was demolished, and what should we do with the founding fathers Jefferson, Washigton and Adams? What to do with American universities founded by well-known slavers, big businessmen and in the same time eugenics enthusiasts, whose names can still be found in every major city in the United States?

There are a lot of questions.

Now the answer is: “Historical pros from the founding fathers outweigh the disadvantages, so we need to save their memory. They laid the foundations of our world that appreciated their contribution. “

This is a very weak option for the explanation, suggesting a revision of the ideological conclusions in the near future.

E.g. in 5 years it will be necessary to demolish Lincoln (by any given reason), then they will find an excuse and take it down.

The memory of those who are falling today from the pedestals, time will erase as well as those who pull them from there.

There is no another option.

Now the second thing: what is currently doing so-called “right-wing” organizations in the United States is an organized provocation.

In a relatively free and democratic society we need a clear confirmation that nobody needs a given Robert E. Lee standing in city center.

They’ve created a scandalous proposition opposing the dismantling, so that everyone had a complete sense of the legitimacy of such actions. Cause “nazis” defend it.

For example, in Louisiana people chose the other way and passed a law in the seat of Parliament that any innovations in the names or monuments are possible only after a general state referendum. This slowed down the process and served as a strong position.
2000 men on the streets with card boards is called cosplay, not a legal statement.

After all, everyone understands the final result of such actions. And it follows.

Just before the Saturday performance residents of the city had questions concerning Robert E. Lee, then after torch march it’s all clear: “Fascists and their symbols should go to the past.”

Now Lee Park around the empty pedestal will become Emancipation Park. Funniest thing.

The mayor of Baltimore, referring to the events of August 12, has signed a decree on the removal of all the monuments of the Confederates outside the city and place them in the cemetery of the Confederate soldiers.

The same thing was done by the mayor of Lexington, Jim Gray.

Another head of the city from the Kentucky promised to revise the local monuments and remove unattractive ones.

Under suspicion now Confederate brigadier general John Castleman. In spite of all his merits, including those services to the North after Civil War, his place in history is questionable.

In general, the word “fascist” in relation to these clowns is gradually replacing the more neutral “nazi” in the public field. It’s alarming symptom, since the freedom of speech extends to the latter, but not to the former.

And this is the main problem of “new right”: they do not have a lawyer and defender in Washington.

They turned up to be just another small and noisy group, representing by the way majority of population. The fashion comes and goes. Real values are eternal.

They, unfortunately, have nothing to do with water cannons, tear gas and even a monument to Robert E. Lee.

You believe labeling a group of Patriots as, Nazi’s or Facist is OK ?

southfront

Definitely no. Attempts to rewrite the heroic history of the US are stupid. However, we don’t think that the both sides act in appropriate way in the ongoing standoff.

Blaine

I have no doubt some of the attendees are real patriots.

I also saw plenty of folk shoulder to shoulder with folks carrying black sun and other Nazi symbols as well as plenty of Fascist symbols proudly displayed. These are the symbols of people the US as a nation fought on several bloody fronts and left many sons buried under foreign soil to defeat. Confederate symbols and history aside, the rest of these symbols and those marching under them, should have no expectation of displaying them unchallenged in the public sphere in this country.

If you can be a Nazi or Fascist and a patriot as well, I’d have to ask a Patriot of what country or cause aside from being an adherent of the 14 words?

Real Anti-Racist Action

Robert E. Lee was anti-slavery and never bought a slave in his life. He did inherit some slaves but after a few years freed them. The North under the bankers control did not free their own slaves till well after the war was over. Entirely untrue. Many Northern civilians owned slaves. Prior to, during and even after the War of Northern Aggression.

Surprisingly, to many history impaired individuals, most Union Generals and staff had slaves to serve them! William T. Sherman had many slaves that served him until well after the war was over and did not free them until late in 1865.

U.S. Grant also had several slaves, who were only freed after the 13th amendment in December of 1865. When asked why he didn’t free his slaves earlier, Grant stated “Good help is so hard to come by these days.”

Contrarily, Confederate General Robert E. Lee freed his slaves (which he never purchased — they were inherited) in 1862! Lee freed his slaves several years before the war was over, and considerably earlier than his Northern counterparts. And during the fierce early days of the war when the South was obliterating the Yankee armies!

Lastly, and most importantly, why did NORTHERN States outlaw slavery only AFTER the war was over? The so-called “Emancipation Proclamation” of Lincoln only gave freedom to slaves in the SOUTH! NOT in the North! This pecksniffery even went so far as to find the state of Delaware rejecting the 13th Amendment in December of 1865 and did not ratify it (13th Amendment / free the slaves) until 1901!

Those Patriots at the park are no more white supremacist then Putin is Russian supremacist or Indians are Indian supremacist or Persians are Persian supremacist or Jews are Jewish-supremacist or Somalis are Somalian supremacist or Hispanics are Hispanic supremacist. http://www.fightwhitegenocide.com/

John Brown

The North was not under the bankers control it, was the South which is very easy to prove. That is a very big error on your part. Will you be correcting it? If not I wonder if you really are Real Anti-Racist Action or really a racist supremacist Jew or one of their Goyim collaborators like Samuel Jackson in Jango.

Yes racist supremacist Jews hate historical facts and ban them. Don’t forget Lincoln is the most hated figure in human history after Jesus by racist supremacist Jews. Any white person who defends the confederacy is a stupid, useful, animal, beast, stooge, as racist supremacist Jews say, because the South economically and politically, the slave trade, banks financial system, courts, military, etc. the government, was totally run by racist supremacist Jews as the entire USSA now is. today.https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/12392db1db04b55b084d87cd907e2e19a7e25e74adf7ff532c7a676d87de65da.png

Jews were so influential in those colonies that slave auctions scheduled to take place on Jewish holidays often were postponed, according to Marc Lee Raphael, a professor of Judaic studies at the College of William & Mary. http://www.jta.org/2013/12/26/news-opinion/world/dutch-rabbi-confronts-jews-with-ancestors-complicity-in-slavery

Judah Philip Benjamin who served as the Attorney General, Secretary of War, and Secretary of State for the Confederacy. The first Jewish-American to serve on an executive cabinet in American history, he has received the title “brains of the Confederacy. One might say Jefferson Davis was the stooge puppet of Judah as Judah ran the military, the courts and international relations and THE security services for the confederacy, the first Mossad. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sqzDSrR4L4w http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/judah-benjamin http://www.jewish-american-society-for-historic-preservation.org/images/Judah_Benjamin_Article_-.pdf https://www.google.ca/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=2&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwjhiMWC7rvUAhVnxoMKHVCKAwUQFggqMAE&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.civilwar.org%2Flearn%2Fbiographies%2Fjudah-phillip-benjamin&usg=AFQjCNHaG0unm6egkHM_UNuomRGGztmsLQ&sig2=Papy7_D1THDWDNgLQNUg6A

“After all, there was no single country at the time. Brothers in arms defended their own lives, being in the minority. They fought and died not because of the ideals of the slave trade, which by that time was already going to the past, but because of the redistribution of power and land ownership.”

Every single state that seceded listed Northern state restrictions on slavery, and in particular the prevention of slavery spreading to the new territories as THE reason why they left the Union. Slavery was not on the way out, it was being incorporated into industrial uses not just agriculture ( look into theTreadegar Ironworks where slaves replaced European ironworkers and were making cannon etc for the Confederacy).

Anyway, lots of good causes to show up ready to play smash-mouth. Fighting to keep up the statue of a middling Confederate general who destroyed his army at Gettysburgh seems a curious spot to draw the line for Patriots. Only two statues honoring John Brown vs dozens honoring Lee, who was the greater American?

Virgil Cane

Middling? You must be kidding. He was the first man to be offered command of the Union Army.

Blaine

Chancellorsville aside and some of his exploits in the Mexican War, virtually all of his victories were incredibly costly in terms of manpower and mostly a result of mind-bendingly poor Union leadership and the fact he was most often fighting from defensive positions. When Grant showed up the magic disappeared.

His inability or unwillingness to check his junior officers at Gettysburg cost the Confederacy any chance of a negotiated end to the war. Admittedly it was all but a lost cause at that point, but I don’t believe for one second all the statues are a tribute to his military genius anyway.

Virgil Cane

You have the right to have whatever opinion you want about the Lee statues. But as for the man, I can’t recall another engineer lieutenant/junior officer who has played such a key role in battle and fortification, etc (strategy). And that was all prior to the CW. So you can’t put key details about the man “aside.” That makes it an unfair argument. Separately, he won decisive battles despite always being out manned, out gunned, and weaker in every other regard except mobility. No US general has ever been loved by his troops like Lee to my knowledge or understanding. He was almost paternal to the Army of Northern Virginia whom they called “the old man.” So his cavalry pulled a no-show leading up to Gettysburg and he made great mistakes there. I agree there, but he is nowhere near “middling.” Take it back! Heh

Blaine

OK…better than middling…”a cut above”. Right up there with McClellan :)

Virgil Cane

mcclellan…hah! you didnt relent, you went all in! ;) no better example of a man gaining leadership through pedigree and not prowess.

Blaine

None other then Robert E Lee himself declared McClellan to be the best Union general of the entire war.

He cleaned Lee’s clock several times (they cleaned each other’s clocks), and even loosing the Seven Days campaign he inflicted many more casualties than he received. That is actually true of every battle they fought IIRC – the only Union general who could make that claim.

Lincoln didn’t like the man (putting it mildly), replacing him with Burnside and Hooker led to the worst Union defeats of the war.

Virgil Cane

McClellan was known to have difficulty in making a decision, usually being way too analytical to the point of paralysis. I think it was a Shaara that led me to form a negative opinion about him. But I recall Lincoln had a good quote re his sedentary leadership..I’ll try to dig it up…

Virgil Cane

“Suppose a man whose profession it is to understand military matters is asked how long it will take him and what he requires to accomplish certain things, and when he has had all he asked and the time comes, he does nothing.” -Lincoln

Virgil Cane

I also recall he made a habit of over estimating Confederate strengths. I’ve always considered the Seven Days Battles a Confederate victory. Afterall, McCellan wanted Richmond and he failed to accomplish the Peninsula Campaign’s main objective; Richmond. More casualties among South compared to North. Definitely not many more, but few thousand more.

Blaine

Yeah, McClellan definitely had problems dropping the hammer. Although his replacements had the opposite problem and gave Lee some of his most lopsided victories.

Is easy to say McClellan should have committed more manpower at various times, but if he had done so and been outflanked folks would have said he should have been more conservative – time was on the Union side after all. Union cavalry early in the war was not the equal of the Confederate, McClellan never trusted his intel. Grant was definitely better, but by then the entire war machine he took command of was better in every way (esp cavalry). McClellan had to build the army for himself – maybe the biggest reason he was unwilling to risk it all for a KO.

Real Anti-Racist Action

The truth will set everyone free! https://saboteur365.files.wordpress.com/2016/04/jew-slave-ship-owners.jpg

Bru

I know. Slave trade was also shut down on sabbath and on the holidays of a certain religion…

This shows that the people demonstrating are ignorant and manipulated, probably by people like Soros linked this very same religion!

The masses are sheep, they can be easily manipulated by those controlling the mass media.

Serious

People are talking about the Confederates but they are not talking about the other side that have genocided Indians in all north America. Republican, Democrates, Washington, jews, … they are all criminals in USA. And Blacks can’t build a country.

White Americans and jews should return to Europe, Blacks toi Africa and leave USA to the Indians.

Funny that Americans want Palestinians to leave their country but them, they do’nt return to Europe. XD.

Kell

So you are advocating genocide?

That is a crime under international law!

You will note Article III covers your comments, public incitement to Genocide.

Serious

Are you serious ? Where are the Amerindians ? XD.

Since when Americans acer about people life ? XD. Americans are terrorists.

Why don’t you made these laws before genociding the Amerindians or before making slavery ? XD.

Dod Grile

If they destroyed every Confederate war monument in the USA today it still would not get the American people out of the hole the corporate fascist war racketeer oligarch parasite criminals have dug them.

This is a distraction, a digression. The divide and conquer strategy among the proles is not going to work.

As to the slave trade, it was/is a global business. It attracted all sorts, from many ethnic and religious groups. Time to move on from the past and look forward to the future. That is the best revenge and remedy for one’s wounds.

Jan Tjarks

The biggest criminals of history are standing in public places in our cities, cast in bronce and coated in gold.

History is something to learn from, not to deny or fake it, but all our history books are faked beyond recognition, no exception.

Kell

A few days after the weekend rally a young man dressed in Confederate uniform carrying a flag handed down within his family stood alone at the foot of the statue of General lee. he stoicly looked into the statues eyes and saluted him, surrounded by leftist drones screaming at him he held his ground and said not a word. Only one of these people has love and honor in their heart the rest have nothing but hatred and destruction, a microcosm of the US today. Love always wins.
