Iran’s Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant has undergone a “temporary emergency shutdown,” the state-run TV reported on June 20.

Gholamali Rakhshanimehr, an official in state electric energy company, said that the shutdown would last “for three to four days.” The official warned that power outages could result from the shutdown.

This is the first time Iran has reported an emergency shutdown at the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant. Tehran is yet to provide any details on the causes of the shutdown.

Located in the southern port city of Bushehr, the facility is Iran’s sole nuclear power plant. It went online in 2011 with help from Russia. Earlier this year, nuclear official Mahmoud Jafari warned that the plant could stop working since Iran cannot purchase parts and equipment for it from Russia due to banking sanctions, which were re-imposed by the US in 2018.

On April 11, a sabotage act allegedly prepared by the Israeli intelligence targeted Iran’s Natanz fuel enrichment plant. Iran responded by launching a plan to enhance uranium up to 60%. The first batch of 60% enriched uranium was produced on April 17.

More information about the “temporary emergency shutdown” at the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant will likely surface soon. Sabotage by the Israeli intelligence may be behind the shutdown, which came amid progress in US-Iran talks to restore the 2015 nuclear deal.

The whole “cannot purchase parts from Russia” sounds dubious to say the least. There are many ways around western sanctions.

BDS

The sanctions are just on paper, and only apply to the Western “world” + their partners. Anyone who really wants to do business with Iran can still do it, but secretly.

Raptar Driver

Yes that is the key. Russia is part of the western partners. It has disguise itself as an alternative, it is not.

IMHO

True.

Urban Moving Systems, is that you?!

Arch Bungle

Excellent.

Every time the Jew sabotages an Iranian plant, the Iranians seem to make advances in nuclear enrichment.

If I didn’t know better I’d think they were working hand in hand …
