Endgame Russia: NATO Sprawl Invades Eastern Europe, No More Illusions

Written by Robert Bridge; Originally appeared at strategic-culture.org

In the past, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) justified its militarization of large swaths of Eastern Europe by pointing to the omnipresent threat of terrorism, or some ‘rogue’ foreign state, inherently understood to be Iran. Today the mask has slipped and it is no longer denied that NATO’s primary target is Russia.

But first, a trip down nightmare lane. The road to ruin – at least as far as US-Russia relations were concerned – began immediately following the 9/11 terror attacks. Three months after that fateful day, in December 2001, George W. Bush informed Vladimir Putin that the US was withdrawing from the Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty, a strange move considering that the treaty had kept the peace between the nuclear superpowers since 1972. This geopolitical “mistake,” as Putin rightly defined it, allowed the US to begin the process of deploying a missile defense system, smack on the border with Russia, allegedly to shield the continent against an attack by Iran. Never mind the fact that Tehran had absolutely no reason, not to mention the wherewithal, to carry out such a suicidal mission. But Washington has never been one to let facts get in the way of a forced move on the global chess board.

Endgame Russia: NATO Sprawl Invades Eastern Europe, No More Illusions

Thus, the Bush administration advocated on behalf of a land-based missile defense system with interceptors based in Poland and a radar station in the Czech Republic. However, due to serious objections from Russia, not to mention the apprehensive citizens of the host countries, the plan had reached an impasse in 2008 – just as Obama was replacing Bush in the White House. Some would call that impeccable timing. What happened next can only be described as a devious sleight of hand on the part of Washington.

In September 2009, the Nobel Peace Prize winner, Barack Obama, announced to great fanfare that the US would “shelve” the Bush plan. This announcement was received in Moscow and beyond as a sign that America’s first black president was truly the real deal when it came to working on behalf of global peace. Suddenly, it appeared that the Bush reign of error had been an ugly anomaly, a bad eight-year dream. That grand illusion lasted for about as long as it took to read that sentence.

Barack Obama, the man who had seduced the global masses with his velvety albeit telepromoted delivery, shifted gears the very next day, announcing that the US would be deploying, in four phases, sea-based SM-3 interceptor missiles in Eastern Europe instead. An opinion piece in the New York Times, penned by then Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates, provided all the information to understand that the world had been hoodwinked.

“Steady technological advances in our missile defense program — from kill vehicles to the abilities to network radars and sensors — give us confidence in this plan,” Gates wrote. “The SM-3 has had eight successful tests since 2007, and we will continue to develop it to give it the capacity to intercept long-range missiles like ICBMs. It is now more than able to deal with the threat from multiple short- and medium-range missiles — a very real threat to our allies and some 80,000 American troops based in Europe that was not addressed by the previous plan.”

“We are strengthening — not scrapping — missile defense in Europe,” he concluded.

With the benefit of hindsight and common sense, it seems that Washington’s plan from the start was to move forward with the sophisticated SM-3 system; the bulky Bush initiative just provided the necessary distraction to usher in the advanced Obama plan, which presents a major threat to the global strategic balance.

But all that is ancient history compared to what is happening today. Under the guise of ‘Russia aggression,’ a concept that was peddled to the unsuspecting masses based on the fake news of a Russian ‘invasion’ of Ukraine and Crimea, compounded by claims that Russia somehow swayed the 2016 US presidential elections, US-led NATO has dropped all pretensions and declared open season on Russia. Combined with Donald Trump’s empty threat that the US would exit NATO if member states did not start spending more on defense (2 percent of annula GDP), Eastern Europe has become a veritable hothouse of paranoia-driven militarization.

In what the Kremlin has described as the greatest amassing of military assets on its border since World War II, NATO troops and hardware have set up camp from as far north as Estonia, down through Latvia and Lithuania, into Romania and Poland, where the rotation of US troops is now standard operating procedure.

Meanwhile, massive military games aimed at deterring the Russian bogeyman continue unabated on Russia’s border. In April, British journalist Neil Clark described just one of these exercises, dubbed Summer Shield. The NATO military exercises “got underway at the Adazi military base. Soldiers from Latvia, the US, Bulgaria, Estonia, Canada, Lithuania, the UK, Luxembourg, Romania, Slovakia, Germany and also non-NATO member Sweden are taking part in the drills,” Clark wrote.

He then went on to make a rather unsettling yet accurate observation: “Today’s mantra regarding ‘Russian aggression’ is the 2003 equivalent of ‘Saddam’s Weapons of Mass Destruction,’ to be repeated ad nauseum by anyone supporting NATO’s Drang nach Osten. And like the WMD claim, it’s based on zero evidence.”

Such reckless behavior would have been difficult to fathom less than a decade ago.

But these are brave new times, and American madness has settled upon the realm of foreign relations like a noxious cloud, forcing client states to crack open their tattered wallets or be left out in the cold when the big, bad Russian bear comes a knocking.

Consider the case of Romania, one of Europe’s poorest countries. Prompted by Donald Trump’s warning that North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) members must fork over 2 percent of their GDP on military spending, Bucharest just made a down payment on a $1 billion American-made M142 HIMARS (High Mobility Artillery Rocket System), as well as four new multi-function corvettes.

Romanian Defence Minister Mihai Fifor told Jane’s that these exorbitant purchases would “improve Romania’s national and allied defense capability” and emphasized that Romania’s commitment to the 2% of GDP spending cap “for the next 10 years is strong”.

Prime Minister Viorica Dancila said, “We want those procurement programs to also strengthen our defence industry based on offset arrangements where possible”.

This was not the first American military incursion into Romania under the guise of guarding against Iran and other alleged rogue players.

In May 2016, the US activated its $800 million missile shield in Romania, which Russia obviously views as a direct threat.

“At the moment the interceptor missiles installed have a range of 500 kilometers, soon this will go up to 1000 kilometers, and worse than that, they can be rearmed with 2400km-range offensive missiles even today, and it can be done by simply switching the software, so that even the Romanians themselves won’t know,” Vladimir Putin told reporters during a visit to Greece in May 2016.

“We have been saying since the early 2000s that we will have to react somehow to your moves to undermine international security. No one is listening to us,” Putin warned.

It remains to be seen how long NATO tone deafness will continue before the militarization of Eastern Europe gets completely out of control and the situation becomes untenable. Or perhaps the point of no return has already come to pass and, fait accompli, we are merely enjoying an illusory calm before the storm.

This is the end of big russian chessgame. Always.

While ruskies play, others work.

Greg

honest work. Sure.

Nigel Maund

What a lot of total crap. Get back to your MARVEL comics and toy train set and leave the adults to comment on these pages.

paul ( original )

May be more expert opinion can help me with a little problem I have with ABM systems; at least land based such systems. These systems can not be used until the ICBM have been launched. So is it not an appropriate defence to attack these ABM systems may be 30 seconds before ICBM launch?

Tudor Miron

Paul, let me suggest that you look at broader picture. It is well known that MDS is not capable to defend against full scale nuclear attack from Russia. What US hopes for is that within 10-15 years it might become capable to defend against retaliatory counter attack after first strike – meaning that after full scale nuclear attack Russia will have less than 20% of it’s capability left and THAT they hope to try to defend with MDS. That’s what I hear from military experts.

paul ( original )

Are they guaranteed the chance to attack first?

Tudor Miron

No, but they are trying to create possibility. As of now – neither side a able attack because retaliation counter attack is a guaranteed destruction of attacker – that’s what nuclear parity is all about. With MDS program US is trying hard to tip the scale in their favor.

John Brown

Dummy even if you get in the first strike the earth is round so the radiation and fallout (and the nuclear winter) from your own first strike will kill you a few days / months later even if you are a racist supremacist Jew in your deluxe fallout shelter.

Tudor Miron

Jonny, you seem to mix me with someone also.

velociraptor

no, tudor moron is only one :))

John Brown

Yes Russia has a no first use policy.

velociraptor

Wrong! decade ago modified, russia can use preventie nuclear attacks. which is good.

Nigel Maund

The danger is the US is now tempted to try it and may ramp up the stakes by using “battlefield nukes” against key Russian formations were they to counter attack the Ukraine which will definitely be “the agent provocateur”, as designed by the NATO military planners, and rapidly destroy the Ukraine Army and Air Force say within the first 48 hours. The US planners know that NATO armies are no real match for the Russian Forces and are there to buy critical time for US and NATO re-inforcements to counter strike after launching the battlefield nukes decimating the key front line Battle Formations. The Ukraine Army and some NATO forces are their as bait and to be sacrificed to lure the Russian key forces into a trap.

John Brown

Tudor morn you are also wrong as well. They are a first strike weapon to fire nuclear tipped (those new mini nukes they have to fit onto a cruise missile) cruise missiles at Russian ICBMs (flying below radar and below the S-4000 on the ground) before any ICBM nuclear first strike from the United Slave States of racist supremacist Israel to wipe out Russian and Chinese missiles before they can be launched, before Russia can launch. Racist supremacist Jews can launch and basically wipe out all life and Goyim on the earth. This is why Russia is building the 100 plus megaton nuclear colbalt warhead torpedo. Cruise missiles won’t be able to hit them as they are under water always.

Michał Hunicz

Exactly. Meanwhile, “Polish” government claims that Russia shoots down presidential Tupolev…

Poland should be militarized – but OUTSIDE NATO!

TiredOfBsToo

What isn’t stated often is that with the US and it’s NATO army sitting on Russia’s doorstep, any firing of missiles of any kind from Empire controlled territory towards Russia, will result in a full scale nuclear retaliatory strike, as Russia would not have the time to determine whether they were nuclear armed or not. The nut cases of the Deep State, as they so often do, haven’t figured that out yet and their miscalculation will end all life on the planet. It seems the Deep State’s Empire will remain knuckle-draggers to the end.

nshah

I guess you can included Russia with the nutcase too for letting the other nutcase to do as they wishes.. hehehe

Анрэс Суарэс

By that standard you should include the whole human species for letting the idiots in the USA endanger the life on Earth.

nshah

The rest of it had been taken care of by the muricunts.. as for Russia it’s well known that it has state of the art weapons as claimed and did not do more to halt muricunts advances towards it borders.. And no one had ask for Russia’s help b4 except for Afghanistan and Syria.. so, throwing all the jobs to Russia is an irrelevant subject..! All we’re doing was giving full support to Russia but now I’m doubt of all the intentions of Russia whether it sincerely helping or there are other agendas.. And I do not buy things like.. oh Russia didn’t do it due to not to starts ww3.. hehehe….! We are not idiots.. we have brains, we observes and analyzed everything. Maybe you should take a look at who’s Putin inner circles are..! And btw, like or not, ww3 will definitely come.. coz at the end of the day.. Russia will suffers more by not halting the muricunts and Co keeps on coming on its border/s

Merijn

But can you blame Russians for the things you mentioned? It would not be really fair….. they fought & they died for Syria… right?

nshah

What does blaming Russia gotta do with this conversation..? I don’t see the relevant of it..! What I’m talking about is the sincerity of Russia in helping after accepting a friend’s call for help..! Russia can to not accepting Assad’s calls.. but it’ll definitely jeopardizes Russia’s interests and national securities.. so, it is supposed to be both will benefits out of it..! unfortunately, from what is see.. nothing much of an archivement when it can do more..! btw, I don’t buy BS of trying to avoid ww3.. just like they use those kinda of cheap statements on that pig swine face trump..! Just look at these 2 assholes inner circles will tell you things you people trying to ignore and/or justify.. LOL..

Merijn

It is the Russian government that makes decisions….. not Russia….. I don’t agree with my government that they have send Headchoppers to Syria…. but they did in the name of NATO….. is it now my fault? I want all Headchoppers dead too…. my government did not listen to me….

nshah

As far as I’m concerned here.. when we talking about Russia or any other.. it’s understood as the government acts and playground.. not the citizens.. as they are the highest authority of making decisions..! And btw, I did not see any protest taken place either..! lol..

Merijn

No protests….. most people are a bit braindead & occupied with their own lives these days…..it’s the way television educated them I’m afraid….. and tv in the West is the exact opposite from the tv in Iran…. the truth must be somewhere in the middle… my friend….

nshah

You’ve seen war.. while I’ve been in it..!

Merijn

Been in one, guess that’s enough?…

nshah

My bad.. but I wasn’t and didn’t jumped on any conclusions.. it was base on your comment above.. the words “I’ve seen” instead of I’ve been..! I guess I didn’t really caught what ur trying to addressed.. tx..

nshah

That’s why Iranians are smart enough to know and see all these (I’ve mentioned above) and that is also as to why they only let Russia use their air base rather than letting them to stay..! Just look at what had happened to Syria after giving them all of those..? was it 45yrs @ 99yrs leased..? hehehe hahaha.. idiots..!

Merijn

The Iranians I know are good people….. many good people in the world…. it’s just the system we are caught in that sucks…it gives the bad example….

Merijn

Many will be ready to back you bro……

Justin

in the early 2000’s when Russia had Bread lines and IMF loans! USA was the Super power and Russia had a civil war! Please try to have a bit of foresight! In these days, Serbia (Russia’s greatest ally) was already blown up and divided and the US went into the Middle East without resistance to take all the oil! Russia COULD do something now but it would cause WW3! Russian being blamed for everything these days!

nshah

You’re so correct regarding early 2000.. but after gaining strength & with all the state of the art arms & weapons.. it’s still the same.. they still let enemies (which are their so called partners} to contained and surrounded their borders while barkings with complaints..! I’m not sure if it’s called strategies in order to avoid ww3.. kinda cheap propaganda to me..! I won’t be having doubts if Russia do the same towards their backyards to signaled them yankess.. just don’t fcuk around wt Russia..! Their MSMs can spins as they wish.. but the facts will be seen by the world’s population..! Then we’ll see more of world public opinions be on Russia’s side

The New World Order aka The Anglo – American Zionist Bankster – Corporatist Cabal has long decided to take out Putin’s Russia as a major obstacle to their plan for Global Hegemony under thier Corporatist – Collectivist – Fascist Dictatorship. So, like July 1941 Russia is faced with the AXIS of EVIL in the shape of NATO. Once hopes that like 1941 the brave Russians will be adequately equipped to once again save humanity from consummate evil as envisaged by these “Globalists”. It comes to no surprise to a student of history that Alan Welsh Dulles CIA facilitated the transfer of 1,500 Nazi scientists including Dr Wernher Von Braun designer of the V2 rocket and the Saturn Vb Apollo Missions rocket to the USA in 1946. The same CIA also facilitated the escape of 10,000 prominent Nazi’s, including Martin Bormann, Dr Josef Mengele and possibly Hitler himself to Argentina, Paraguay, Uraguay and Chile under CIA Operation “Ratlines”. (see Wikipedia) also in 1945 to 1946. The Dullles brothers, Avirell Harriman, Prestcott Bush and many other notables in the US administration were Nazi sympathisers and in their industry positions supplied the Wehrmacht with army trucks, fuel ad vital aviation chemicals such as ethylene glycol for high performance / high latitude fighters until 1941. Dulles CIA assassinated Jack and Bobby Kennedy and Martin Luther King. These are the types of people that run the modern USA and run the USA as the so called “Deep State”. They are evil, ruthless, clever, greedy, power mad lunatics; many of them are paedophiles and extreme deviants.

Feudalism Victory

Yes nazis are part of the american elites fabric now.

velociraptor

In 1941 russians were not adequately equipped. ;)

russians also transferred thousands of nazi scientists

Putin said Russia will know when those “defensive” missiles are made offensive.

The Bear can blame only himself. As all 3 leaders (Gorbachev, Yeltsin and Putin) were poorly prepared for their historical roles, I would even say that they were ignorant about the history of the Russian relations with the West and blinded by their own ideological inclinations. In a despotic country as Russia it is always one man who decides about everything, everyone else follows. For example, just as G.W. Bush pulled out of ABM Treaty, Putin responded by pulling out of Cuba. There are many such examples in politics and economy. The whole Eastern NATO expansion transpired during the Putin years. The so much touted chessboard doesn’t exist as we still witness Russian retreat in all directions which greatly encourages the opponent. Since Russian doctrine excludes possibility of using overwhelming nuclear attack first, Russia has no chance of winning nuclear exchange as it will have to deal with swarm of nuclear tipped missiles with flying time of only a few minutes and coming from all directions. The only deterrence it has available is the (very dubious) possibility of retaliation which will have no consequences for the country as it had already been nuked (destroyed). Lately, we have learned that the US has always had a working plan to nuke USSR unprovoked. It would be ludicrous to think that they don’t have one today. All that’s needed is an opportune time.

Tudor Miron

They wouldn’t get that “an opportune time.” they had their chance in 90s but it is too late now. Russia’s sovereignty was diminished to roughly 20% but that 20% included its strategic nuclear forces so they were preserved. Sines than they were modernized. What you call “(very dubious) possibility of retaliation” is in reality a guaranteed total destruction of possible attacker and they know it.

You simply can’t comprehend our point of view – Russia doesn’t consider possibility to initiate first strike (nuclear) because we do not consider destruction of America to be some sort of victory for us or anyone on Earth. We realize that Earth is like a submarine in an ocean of vacuum – if one large sector of submarine is destroyed the ship will sink. But as you could see with numerous examples during WWII and recently in Syria when Sasha Prohorenko called air strikes on himseld when surrounded by daesh rats and Roman Filipov – if we see that death is inevitable we’ll make sure that we take enemy with us.

Some people think that it all hinges on Putin (who managed to bring up a country that was almost finished by anglo zio empire) but they don’t realize that Putin is a product of Russian people – “each and every society has a leader that is a reflection of society collective awareness”©

FSB agent, dont try to feed us with cremlin bullshits. You are losing the second cold war, you are before nes splitting.

ONLY beacause of your stupidity.

How is it possible, that gorbi and yeltsin were not hanged up?!

How is it possible, that you removed troops from east germany?

How is it possible, that you obeyed cuba, vietnam, syria??? (in syria ruskies are beck only now, they left 5 years assad alone, and only for ukraine came back. not for friendly country)

How is it possible, that yeltsin simply dissolved one country? how is it possible, that before splitting did not changed the stupid stalinistic internal borders?

how is it possible, that before splitting there were no guaranties for russian minorities????

how is it possible, that beofre splitting there were no treaties, that none of these countries will enter nato/eu???

you, ruskies are xtremly stupid nation!

and due to your stupidity (and arrogance, that you are not able to accept, that you are not garnadious, but only subaverage nation, which fact stops all developments) you will lose 75% of present territory. you are such losers, that let in far east part 3-5 million chinese, their number grows yearly and in 1 generation they will take over that land.

you are also example of russian stupidity. you play with western cars instead of develope something original russian.

and putin? this C+klass kgb agent? he is weak. he allows oligarchia, only his friends can have factories. his friends bring russian money in western banks, his friends buy western football clubs (and waste the russian money), ….

you deserve your black fate. you are so stupid, that you pray to those thiefs.

Someone call the doctor! :) This creature is having panic attack.

rather you.

i am still waiting for your answer: how many times attacked russian planes in syria IAF or USAF?

now open your unwashed mouth!

Very first sentence, ‘cremlin’. No need to read beyond that. Lol

velociraptor

your problem, little shit.

Bob

Still no need to read your posts. No change there. Lol

nesa

I tend to agree with your assessment regarding the qualifications of the three Russian leaders. I remember Gorbachev pushing for reunification of Germany while the Anglo-Saxon empire was opposed as they never liked the idea of strong Germany. Look today, the news is: Germany is doubling its troops on Russian border. Then the Warsaw pact came down with the grace of Gorbachev, then USSR, most of it historical Russian lands, was dismembered by drunkard Yeltsin. Putin with his mostly liberal surrounding continued the same policies for many years, even to this day in many spheres. It seems to be Russia’s turn now. Unfortunately, it looks like the Russians are still not getting it.

Merijn

In this picture above.. Only the Generalfeldmarschall looks like a War-Horse to me…… surrounded by Yankee Doodles that don’t want to fight the Russians for sure… believe me…..Tip of the day: Don’t Fuck with them Russians……. you are not going to like it…

The pursuit of nuclear primacy: – “the United States stands on the verge of attaining nuclear primacy. It will probably soon be possible for the United States to destroy the long-range nuclear arsenals of Russia or China with a first strike…. the era of U.S. nuclear primacy has begun” (The Rise of U.S. Nuclear Primacy, Keir A. Lieber and Daryl G. Press, March/April 2006)

– “We are starting to build a deterrent construct that will be better than mutual assured destruction” (General James E. Cartwright)

– “It would be impossible for the system to stop thousands of incoming Soviet missiles at once, so missile defense made sense only as a way of mopping up after an initial US strike.” (Wired)

– “The United States is pursuing global strategic domination through developing anti-ballistic missile systems capable of a sudden disarming strike against Russia and China, according to the deputy head of operations of the Russian General Staff….. “The presence of US missile defense bases in Europe, missile defense vessels in seas and oceans close to Russia creates a powerful covert strike component for conducting a sudden nuclear missile strike against the Russian Federation,” [Lt. Gen. Viktor] Poznikhir [Deputy Chief of the Main Operations Directorate of the Russian Armed Forces] explained….. “Applying sudden disarming strikes targeting Russian or Chinese strategic nuclear forces significantly increases the efficiency of the US missile defense system,” Poznikhir added. American ABM systems are not only creating an “illusion” of safety from a retaliatory strike but can themselves be used to launch a sneak nuclear attack on Russia. In a blatant breach of the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty, the standard land-based launching systems can be covertly rearmed with Tomahawk cruise missiles instead of interceptors…….” (US missile shield aims to cover sudden nuclear strike against Russia – General Staff, RT, 27 Apr, 2017), etc……

The employment of nuclear weapons is in general restricted to the situation of a significant escalation (that can occur despite efforts to prevent such a situation). In the context of the increasingly confrontational behaviour of a Western military bloc (engaging in globally expanding militarism [successive wars of aggression framed as ‘defence’ as all wars are] to pursue primacy/political, commercial and/or strategic objectives through the mechanism of war), it is worth recognising restrained responses to brinkmanship logically has limits. Certain actions would necessitate adequate responses.

While for the Russian Federation and China diplomacy remains a priority, as the U.S.-NATO-coalition bloc increasingly embraces policies and actions conforming to confrontation, in some situations a deterrent posture may be rendered inadequate to prevent the situation of eventual conflict. Indeed, as this Western bloc continues in the direction of confrontation, preparations for all potential outcomes are quietly accelerating in parallel with diplomatic efforts.

Note: The potential for a nuclear warfare event is unfortunately gradually increasing as the reaction time to a potential fast first strike (conventional and/or nuclear) has reduced significantly (response time to the detection of a decapitation strike action is decreasing with U.S.-NATO-allied efforts to attain close proximity fast strike capabilities). The potential for miscalculation or misinterpretation of military actions should be self evident.

While efforts to prevent the situation of a nuclear war event will continue, importantly such a potential event (which would most likely occur as a result of escalation rather than calculation) would not translate to human extinction if it were to occur at some point in the future (despite efforts to prevent this situation). It would however logically eclipse previous wars.

p2. The (long planned) integration of Georgia and Ukraine into the U.S./NATO bloc: – “We stated that Ukraine, and Georgia, by the way, will become members of NATO” [NATO Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen]. (NATO officials promised Ukraine eventual membership at a summit in 2008).

– “The Ukrainian armed forces are receiving funds, equipment and training in preparation for eventual NATO membership” (Ukraine a NATO Member in Everything but Name, 16/01/2015)

– “Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatseniuk and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg will discuss restoration of the state’s Euro-Atlantic course and [integration of] Ukraine [with] NATO”… “An agenda of the meeting includes [the] interoperability to NATO standards, reformation of defense and security sectors, defense industry and the Armed Forces of Ukraine according to NATO standards, development of interoperability of the Ukrainian army and NATO forces,” (NATO To Discuss Aid To Ukraine For “Hybrid” War With Russia, December 13, 2014)

– “the United States and its European allies share most of the responsibility for the [Ukraine] crisis. The taproot of the trouble is NATO enlargement, the central element of a larger strategy to move Ukraine out of Russia’s orbit and integrate it into the West [EU (economic) and NATO (military) bloc]… Since the mid-1990s, Russian leaders have adamantly opposed NATO enlargement…” (Why the Ukraine Crisis Is the West’s Fault, Foreign Affairs, 20/08/2014)

– “NATO should’ve been buried at the end of the cold war: instead, the NATO-crats went on the offensive – breaching the understanding reached by Western leaders with then Russian leader Mikhail Gorbachev – and expanded into most of eastern Europe….. The seeds of World War III are being planted…” (Our Cold War With Russia Could Turn Hot, by Justin Raimondo, September 03, 2014)

The foundations for more profound conflicts are in place. These include: escalating actions against the DPRK (economic strangulation/pre-war mobilisation of forces); the U.S. progressively acting towards the partition of Taiwan (which would result in war); polarisation of S China Sea claims (to engineer anti-China military alliances); U.S.-NATO-Ukrainian pre-offensive build-up concurrent with ‘re-integration’ laws defining a state of war against the Russian Federation (accusation of ‘Russian aggression’ as Ukraine and its partners abandon any pretence of Minsk agreement compliance openly declaring the preference for a military solution against ethnic Russian populations); U.S. moves to sabotage the JCPOA (to escalate hostile actions against Iran); intensification of proxy warfare/partition operations against Syria; etc……..

Indeed, it is likely a relative calm before more profound levels of conflict (particularly recognising the de-escalation/conflict resolution efforts of the Russian Federation and China are effectively being sabotaged by U.S.-NATO-allied policies and actions of confrontation and moves towards nuclear primacy (that will remain an illusion as retaliatory capabilities will continue to be effective in the foreseeable future).

Veritas Vincit

Reports relating to ABM/BMD architecture compatibility with [nuclear capable] cruise missiles and the associated development of fast decapitation strike capabilities:

In a blatant breach of the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty, the standard land-based launching systems can be covertly rearmed with Tomahawk cruise missiles instead of interceptors…….” (US missile shield aims to cover sudden nuclear strike against Russia – General Staff, RT, 27 Apr, 2017)

– “The Black Sea is the perfect platform through which to project military power into the very heart of Russia,” the CIA-linked think tank STRATFOR wrote in, “The Black Sea: A Net Assessment.” From positions in the Black Sea, NATO can strike rapidly against the Russian capital city, and simultaneously cut off energy supplies to Russia’s military by seizing Russia’s oil production centers in Tatarstan and Bashkortostan, STRATFOR wrote…… “If a naval operation were to project power from the Black Sea toward the Don River corridor between Rostov-on-Don and Volgograd (better known by its former name, Stalingrad), Moscow would be cut off from the Russian Caucasus and the region’s immense energy resources,” STRATFOR noted.” (US Navy to continue Black Sea incursions, brushing aside Russian demands, By Thomas Gaist, WSWS, 18 June 2017)

Deception is a tool of war and the U.S.-NATO-allied bloc is in the business of war. Efforts to misrepresent ABM/BMD capabilities are understood but such efforts at deception are irrelevant as capabilities, not claims, are assessed when developing defensive policies (and counter-measures). The staged deployment of missile architecture adjacent to the borders of the Russian Federation and China is recognised by analysts as relating to the pursuit of fast first strike potential.

The probability of a nuclear warfare event is correspondingly increased as the reaction time to a potential fast first strike (conventional and/or nuclear) is reduced significantly (response time to the detection of a decapitation strike action is decreasing with U.S.-NATO-allied efforts to attain close proximity fast strike capabilities). The pursuit of nuclear primacy (with the associated build-up of missile architecture) does not contribute to the security of the U.S.-NATO-allied bloc. Quite the opposite. The Russian Federation also will maintain retaliatory capabilities:

“We make no secret that we have military-technical means to neutralize the possible negative impact of the U.S. global missile defense system on the Russian nuclear forces,” [Russian Chief of Staff Valery General Gerasimov]

2. Tomahawk missile: – Nuclear variant: W80 warhead – Launch platform: Vertical Launch System (VLS) – BGM-109A Tomahawk Land Attack Missile – Nuclear (TLAM-N) with a W80 thermonuclear weapon. Retired from service sometime between 2010 and 2013. Reports from early 2018 state that the U.S. Navy is considering (re)introducing (a yet unknown type of) nuclear-tipped cruise missile into service.

3. “Semantics may deceive the civilian layman, but the Russians have always known the “shield” is a sword….. Mk-14 canisters containing Tomahawk cruise missile have the same dimensions as the Mk-21din that launches the anti-ballistic missle SM-3 block 1b. The Tomahawk missile is armed with the miniaturized nuclear warhead W80 50 kt. American technology enables also replacing the Mk 142 kinetic cargo of rocket missile SM-3 Block 1b with the miniature nuclear warhead W80, from the cruise mini-rocket AGM-86 ALCM (which has the same mass as the SM-3 Block 1b). ” (US Anti-Missile Shield or Sword?, Valentin Vasilescu (Katehon), 23/06/2016)

4. “The present anti-missile systems in Eastern Europe are based on the universal platform MK-41 and its technical specifications allow launching “Tomahawk” missiles with a range of 2500 km…..” (On the Verge of a Major War: Is There a Pilot in the Cockpit?, Southfront, 17/10/2016)

5. “The assumption that the ground-based variant of Mark-41 vertical launching system allegedly has no capabilities to fire cruise missiles is unconvincing. Interceptor missiles at European missile defense bases … can be re-equipped with cruise missiles covertly and promptly. In this case, cruise missiles will target the entire territory of European Russia,” he [Defense Ministry spokesman Alexander Yemelyanov] said. The spokesman added that the possibility of using the ground-based version of the shipborne missile canister launching system to fire cruise missiles “is a direct breach of the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty.” (US can covertly arm missile defense systems in Europe with missiles — Russian ministry, TASS, October 13, 2017)

The US and NATO really need to get the fuxk out of Europe. Unless US / NATO sabre-rattling ceases, and soon, we Europeans may all, once again be overwhelmed by war. In applying the term “Europeans” I include Russia.
