Erdogan doesn't want U.S to talk to Syrian Kurds

On Sunday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had been upset by a US envoy’s meeting with Syrian Kurds in the Syrian border town of Kobani. He warned U.S to choose either Turkey or the “terrorists” (Kurds) as its ally.

It was reported last week that a senior US diplomat named Brett McGurk and a group of delegation met members of the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG), which is in control of strategic Kobani of Syria.

According to media reports, Erdogan reacted to the visit on U.S delegation visit on Sunday.

“Is it me who is your partner or the terrorists in Kobani?” Erdogan asked addressing to U.S.

On Sunday, the US special envoy and the delegation met with YPG members after the PYD was excluded from peace talks for Syria in Geneva since Turkey had threatened to boycott the peace talks if PYD was invited.

“Do you accept the PKK as a terrorist organization? Then why don’t you list the PYD and the YPG as terrorist organizations, too?” Erdogan asked US.

The Syrian Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD) and its military wing YPG have been fighting for an autonomous Kurdish region inside Turkey since the 1980s. Turkey considers both PYD and YPG as terrorist groups.
