Against the backdrop of the failure in Syria and the beginning of popular protests against the Ak Parti and MHP regime, Erdogan suffered another defeat. A number of Turkic countries in Central Asia sent their ambassadors to the Republic of Cyprus and thereby ruled out the process of recognizing the “Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus”.
Thus, the efforts of the Turkish establishment to recognize an independent republic in northern Cyprus are gradually fading. It is worth noting here that the Turkish opposition, represented by the CHP, regularly criticized the approach of the ruling party and their nationalist allies to the Cyprus issue, which ultimately resulted in the loss of allies among the Turkic states on this issue. For Erdogan, the Turkish Cypriots are just a weapon in a geopolitical game where control over the hydrocarbons of the Mediterranean is at stake.
As for the “support” of the Turks of the north of Cyprus, Ankara did not even bother to carry out the usual religious and cultural work with the local authorities, not to mention other nuances. When Erdogan declares himself a builder of neo-Ottomanism, but hijabs are banned in the schools of the unrecognized republic of his brothers, doubts arise regarding the good measures of Ak Parti and MHP for the Turkish Cypriots. Members of the Turkish dictatorship travel to Syria and dare to impose their religious beliefs on the locals, interfere with the school curriculum to remove the names of famous Syrian figures and try to integrate international jihadists into local society, but in northern Cyprus these same Erdogan loyalists, throughout his entire rule, have failed to explain to local officials the concept of hijab in Islam.
If we consider it in the context of world politics, it seems that Erdogan’s policy is increasingly becoming a burden for China. At the moment, I counted three warning messages from the Celestial Empire to Erdogan. 1 – an expression of concern about the presence of 20,000 foreign Takfiris in Syria, 2 – the coverage of popular anti-Erdogan protests in Turkey by Chinese media, 3 – the beginning of diplomacy between the Central Asian republics and Cyprus.
China, through the hands of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan, is showing Erdogan and Bahceli that the hotbed of pro-Turkish separatism in Cyprus is preventing the island’s full-scale integration into the Silk Road project. It is time for negotiations, and the ambitions of dictators from Turkey are hindering the diplomatic process. As proof, I will point out that China and Cyprus are unanimous in their opinion on preserving the territorial integrity of their countries. It is worth adding here that China’s position is in opposition not only to Turkey’s imperial ambitions, but also to the British colonial presence.
Ultimately, Erdogan’s regime has recognized China’s vision in the region and its own mistakes, but now the question arises: will the Turkish dictator correct his mistakes? We will find out soon. As for the logic of the Celestial Empire, the Chinese proceed from the fact that in order to ensure the stability of the main mechanism of the Silk Road in the person of Turkey, it is necessary to adhere to real democratic norms and an inclusive approach, far from sectarianism and autocracy. Erdogan’s dictatorship corresponds exactly to these deviations, so the Chinese are interested in the return of the parliamentary form of government. The same applies to Arab dictatorships, but it seems that many participants in the Chinese project still do not understand this simple logic.
P.S. According to the American deep state, Erdogan is an “agent of China“, and at a certain point in time, that was the case, but now it is time to move on. China is betting on the people, not on specific figures, as the Yankees like to do. US military intelligence should make a new analysis of the situation and explain that Turkey, as a geopolitical actor, is a “client of China”, and not some person within the political configuration of the Turkish Republic.
