A group of Russian journalists were detained as they were trying to cross to Russian territory.
Last Thursday a crew of the All Russian Television and Radio Network (VGTRK) were stopped by Estonian border officials; their professional equipment, such as cameras, cell phones and their papers were kept as well by the border guards.
According to declarations given by the Foreign Affairs Spokesperson of Russia, Maria Zakharova, this is not the first time that Russian journalists are detained in the accomplishment of their functions. She also claimed that this events keep happening because of law codes and rules set up by the European Union whose application does not grant the protection of immunity and the freedom of expression of thoughts and position for the journalists, specially Russian ones.
After 5 hours of detention, the TV crew was finally freed.
Zakharova claims not only political, but also physical censorship seems to be applied in this cases which are now under investigation.
