On November 10, the Ethiopian National Defense Forces (ENDF) captured Humera Airport from the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) in the northern region of Tigray.

The state-run Fana TV said local forces surrendered after ENDF troops took control of Humera Airport. Government troops also captured a road that connects the town of Humera with the Sudanese border.

Ethiopian government forces launched a military operation in the Tigray Region on November 4, after accusing local security forces aligned with the regional TPLF of attacking ENDF positions in the region.

Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, who ordered the operation, vowed that his military will bring a quick end to the fighting in Tigray.

“law enforcement operations in Tigray are proceeding as planned: operations will cease as soon as the criminal junta is disarmed, legitimate administration in the region restored, and fugitives apprehended & brought to justice – all of them rapidly coming within reach,” Ahmed said on November 10.

According to recent reports, over 500 people have been killed in the regional clashes. The exact number of casualties is yet to be determined.

The African Union is calling for an immediate ceasefire in the Tigray Region. However, both sides don’t appear ready to accept a political settlement, as for now.
