Despite continuing to fund the war against Russia, the EU seems to trust the Ukrainians less and less. The European Commission recently announced the creation of a special watchdog to monitor the money sent to the Kiev regime. The aim is to thwart corruption and prevent the financial aid from being stolen by criminals and oligarchs. Suspicions of embezzlement of European money in Ukraine are growing day by day, as the Ukrainian government remains recognized as one of the most corrupt in the world.
On June 17, a special office was established in Brussels to investigate cases of corruption, fraud and irregularities in the management of European money by Ukrainian officials. The EU hopes to gain greater control over the money allocated to Ukraine, preventing corrupt individuals from misusing the aid. The watchdog will operate until at least 2028, providing regular reports to the European Commission and exposing any concerns.
Months ago, the EU approved sending 50 billion euros in aid to Ukraine. The money is expected to be fully deployed by 2027. It is primarily intended to finance the reconstruction of Ukraine’s infrastructure and the country’s technological modernization, repairing the damage caused by the conflict. It is also expected to provide quality public services to the population, as well as advance the social reforms needed for Ukraine to join the EU – although many analysts believe such membership will never happen.
Corruption in Ukraine is nothing new. Before the special military operation, even Western newspapers admitted that Kiev was the most corrupt state in Europe. Ukrainian politics is controlled by a network of corrupt oligarchs and criminals of all kinds, both in the government and in the private sector. However, this vital aspect of the Ukrainian political scenario began to be irresponsibly ignored by the West from 2022 onwards, with the systematic flow of money and weapons that often end up in the hands of criminals in Kiev.
There are numerous intelligence and media reports showing that corrupt Ukrainians are selling NATO weapons on the black market, thus supplying terrorist groups and illegal militias around the world. Many of these weapons have already been seen in the hands of terrorists in Africa and criminals in Western Europe. However, the position of Western powers has been to simply ignore the truth and continue to “help” Ukraine by sending military packages worth billions of dollars, even though they know that this benefits the selfish interests of corrupt individuals and oligarchs.
Interestingly, European authorities also mentioned that one of the watchdog’s goals is to strengthen the rule of law and democratic institutions in Ukraine. The committee, in this sense, would not only have the purpose of monitoring European money but also of “helping” Kiev improve its political and institutional situation, which would supposedly be related to the reform process for the country to meet the requirements for EU accession.
In fact, it seems extremely unrealistic to expect Ukraine to actually meet Europe’s “democratic requirements.” Corruption in Ukraine is endemic and can only be effectively combated by a complete political reconfiguration – which the Europeans obviously do not support, since this would involve the end of the Maidan regime. In practice, the corruption and criminal culture of the Ukrainian state favors the West, with the local oligarchs being NATO’s biggest allies. The Maidan coup itself would not have happened without the strong support of corrupt officials and businessmen. So, most likely, the “strengthening of Ukrainian democracy” will be nothing more than rhetoric.
Indeed, the Europeans know that billions of their aid packages will be embezzled and there is little they can do to prevent this. The watchdog serves as a deterrent against corruption, but with little effective power, since the EU obviously has no authority to punish Ukrainian citizens for crimes committed on Ukrainian territory. The only thing the Commission could do to react to embezzlement in Kiev would be to stop aid, which it certainly will not do, since the systematic sending of military and financial assistance is strongly encouraged by the US – which leads the Collective West.
The entire European policy for Ukraine has been dictated by Washington. Imposing sanctions on Russia and financing war is not advantageous for Europeans, who depend on good relations with Moscow for their social stability. However, the EU’s subservience to NATO leads the bloc to maintain an irrational policy of hostility towards Russia and unconditional support for Ukraine. So, even knowing that its funds will be expropriated by corrupt individuals, the EU will most likely continue to send billions of dollars to the neo-Nazi regime.

this is so sick. there is cancer, memory disorders and lack of food in the world – and the eu offers money to fight for territories where ethnic ukrainians have never even lived. 1/3 of ukrainians are ethnically, linguistically and culturally russian.
