At the noon of January 24, an explosion rocked the district of al-Adauwi in the heart of the Syrian capital of Damascus.
The Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported that the explosion was caused by an improvised explosive device (IED), which had been planted under a civilian car. According to the state-run agency, no one was killed or injured in the incident.
Many diplomatic missions are based in al-Adauwi, including the embassy of Russia. The district is also known as a gathering for senior Syrian officials.
Last week, the Syrian intelligence carried out an anti-terrorism operation in the southern part of Damascus. During the operation, a terrorist was arrested and an IED was detonated in a controlled environment.
Local observers believe that the incident, which is currently being investigated, was an attempt to destabilize the situation in the Syrian capital.
