On April 12, an explosion erupted on a natural gas pipeline in the area of al-Shadadi in the province of al-Hasakah.
The incident happened just near the al-Jisba oil field controlled by the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the US-led coalition.
According to Kurdish sources, it remains unclear what group was behind the attack. Nonetheless, there is no secret that ISIS cells have recently increased their activities within the SDF-held area on the eastern bank of the Euphrates.

The Syrian and Turkish governments have a deal that allows for the Turks to provide the Syrian side with water, and in return the Syrian side provides the Turkish side with power. Lately they’ve been in a dispute because the Turks have been demanding more power and the Syrians refused to accommodate them, then the Turks started cutting off the water supply. And since the Syrians can’t live without water, I suspect the Turks have been given more power in return for more water, that could account for the latest power restrictions.
Just wait until Erdogan starts demanding payment for the water released into the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers.
That won’t surprise me.
In the 1990’s, Turkey developed a long term water plan to build 24 dams for hydroelectric power and provide irrigation water for their farmers. Bashar’s father threatened to go to war with Turkey if those dramatically decreased the flow into the Euphrates River. The international community stepped in to negotiate a deal between the two countries. Later on Assad Sr. allowed the PKK to set up bases in Northern Syria from where they conducted raids on the dam construction sites. Erdogan restarted the dam projects and told the World that the captured water would be used inside Turkey with the excess sold to neighboring countries, which would be Syria, Iraq and Iran (one other river flows into Iran). There’s no international laws that prevent countries from stopping or reducing the flow of their rivers into neighboring countries. Iraq nearly went to war with Syria when Assad Sr.’s big dams on the Euphrates reduced the flow to a trickle as their reservoirs filled up.
There should be laws about it.
I will remind You and others about, that the Syria project in its full scale by its 3 dams hardly would give a drop of water to Iraq.
So we see the water wars are not new.
We right now see Etiopia will take a lot of water, so the Nile will narrow. We see several rivers hardly reach the see. A good example is Colorado river, which parts of the year hardly reach the pacifics in Mexico.
We see the climate change makes more water as well as we use more from the ground, so there is nothing mpre to pump up.
So laws also is about using watermuch much better. Most systems let too too much eporate in the sky. Fields are not effective, so we are verý ineffective in water as well as fertilizer.
Many mpore things also can be grown better and faster under glas, where we can give more or less heat and not loose a single frop of water.
Strange for Danes, but we gets more rain and by that our fields becomes too wet. We cant come there in early spring and we also sometimes cant harvest in the autum because of water, which also destroy our work.
So we need better methods as well. So far we try to make the wetlands into nature again for hobbies and trees, but we cant go 2000 years and feed as many as we do.
So problem number 3 might be, we today can control how many children we gets and – in my oppinion – should.
I had it yesterday. Some wome here told Iranians might starve because of the sanctions. But I also see the Iranians produce children as almost rabbits and also have so many unimployed.
Iranians also jas a regulated agriculture of the worst unproductive way making some kind of double bureuakracy where You have to add skyhigh possibilities for super corruption.
Water and food is not only about water and food. Its about people. We have all version and I dont forget the plunderings by being “too effective”, which is theft.
I had no idea of the past history concerning the water, thanks for the info, it helps explain why the Turkish PKK and the Syrian government had an affiliation. Hopefully the Turks aren’t planning on building anymore hydro electric dams.

“In a press statement released by the Syrian news agency, SANA, the Ministry said: “The recent increase of electricity rationing was the result of the security situation in the badia, which caused the Hayan and al-Shaer fields to stop operating and the release of a large quantity of gas that greatly affected the electricity network.”
This part of the article is confusing, do they mean the gas fields were closed due to hostilities and they couldn’t provide the necessary supplies for the power station, or do they mean the power station was attacked and a reservoir was destroyed releasing the gas causing the disruption to supply, it’s unclear and I suspect there’s a good reason for the confusing article from SANA. The Syrian government won’t like having to admit they had to allocate more electricity for the Turks usage at the expense of the local populations needs, so I suspect this confusing article is trying to shift the blame a bit, I’m not sure but it’s possible, or it could be the truth too, I never know what to believe anymore.

Isis attacks SAA controlled Homs from Iranian controlled southern Deir ez Zor, and it also attacks US controlled Ar Raqqah, northern Deir ez Zor and Al Hasakah from Iranian controlled Deir ez Zor, mmm, isn’t that just a bit suspicious, and I know it’s not like the Iranians aren’t trying to stop them, but something’s not working, Isis is running amok. Come on Russia, the airspace above southern Deir ez Zor isn’t really poisonous, surely you can fly your planes through their airspace and attack Isis there, surely you can coordinate some effective countermeasures with your Iranian allies and smash them together, or can’t you?, and if not why can’t you, don’t you want to kiss and make up for the greater interests of Syria, it seems you’re both acting like petulant children, go on, shake hands and make up, Isis needs a good thrashing.
That explosion could’ve been caused by a small leak that was touched off by cloud-to-ground lightning or by electrical arcing from a passing vehicle. Those two have caused NG pipeline explosions in East Texas over the years so are constantly checked by aircraft for leaks which show up as dead vegetation above it. That doesn’t do much good during our dry Summer months when grasses turn brown from a lack of rainfall so leaks go undetected until a passing thunderstorm finds it for the operator.
