Late on September 17, an explosion rocked Ali Agha fuel station on the road between the towns of Tell Alo and al-Ya’rubiyah in the northeastern countryside of Syria’s al-Hasakah.

Some sources claimed that the explosion was caused by an improvised explosive device that was planted under a fuel tanker parked right next to the station. Others, however, said a hand grenade was thrown at the station, which caused the explosion of the tanker.

According to the North Press News Agency, the explosion claimed the lives of two men, one of them was the guard of the fuel station. Several others were reportedly injured.

The U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), which control the region, sent a large force to the station after the explosion.

In the last few months, ISIS cells in northeast Syria have attacked many fuel tankers, most of them were reportedly heading to government-held areas. The terrorist group was likely behind the attack on Ali Agha station.

The SDF is making immense effort to secure northeastern Syria. Nevertheless, ISIS is still highly-active in different parts of the region.
