In the morning of January 31, an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded near a center of Syrian security forces in the government-held part of the city of Qamishli.
“The explosion occurred when a vehicle of the Kurdish People’s Court was passing near a police center of the Damascus government in the district of al-Arbuiyah in the city,” RT’s report in Syria said.
According to the Kurdish Hawar News Agency (ANHA), two women Nadia Mohamad Shaker and Khadija Hussein were injured in the IED explosion. Both victims were transported to the hospital of Dar al-Shifa’a in the city, where they are receiving treatment.
Qamishli, which is located on the Syria-Turkish border, is jointly controlled by the Damascus government and the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). The strategic city witnessed a series of bloody bombings between 2014 and 2015 that claimed the lives of dozens of civilians.
No group has claimed responsibility for the new IED attack. However, local observers believe that it was carried out by ISIS cells, which are apparently trying to spark a crisis between Damascus and the Kurdish-dominated group.
