Late on October 22, a series of explosions rocked the U.S.-led coalition Green Village base in the northeastern Syrian governorate of Deir Ezzor, according to different Syrian news sources.
Some sources said that a salvo of rockets hit the base, which is located within al-Omar oil fields in the southeastern Deir Ezzor countryside, while others said that the base was attacked by an unidentified drone. No casualties were reported, however.
Following the attack, U.S. forces launched several projectiles from the base. Impacts were later reported in the outskirts of the town of al-Mayadin in the southern countryside of Deir Ezzor, where Iranian-backed Syrian and Iraqi forces are known to be present.
The U.S.-led coalition has not commented on the alleged attack, so far. In mid-October, the Green Village base was reportedly struck by several rockets. The coalition is yet to confirm or deny this.
The new attack on the base may have been a response by Iranian-backed forces to the October 21 Israeli strikes on the Syrian capital, Damascus.
According to a recent report by the New York Times, Damascus and its allies in the so-called “Axis of Resistance” have agreed to respond to Israel’s repeated strikes by attacking U.S.-led coalition bases in Syria.
In August, Iranian-backed forces attacked a garrison of the U.S.-led coalition in the southeastern Syrian area of al-Tanf with several suicide drones in response to a series of Israeli strikes that targeted air defense bases in Tartus and Damascus. The attack led to a limited confrontation with the coalition.
