Explosions Rock U.S. Base In Syria’s Deir Ezzor For Second Time In Week

Early on October 26, a series of explosions rocked the U.S.-led coalition Green Village base in the northeastern Syrian governorate of Deir Ezzor, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

The London-based monitoring group said that two drones were spotted flying over the base after the explosions, without elaborating.

Some Syrian activists speculated that the explosions were the result of an attack on the base, which is located within al-Omar oil field in the southeastern countryside of Deir Ezzor. The U.S.-led coalition is yet to confirm or deny this.

This was the second time explosions were reported at the Green Village base in less than a week. A series of explosions were heard at the base just a day after the October 21 Israeli strikes on the Syrian capital, Damascus. Back then, the U.S.-led coalition said that its forces were training with M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS).

The new explosions also came in the wake of an Israeli attack on Syria. On October 24, a series of Israeli strikes targeted military positions in the outskirts of Damascus.

A recent report by the New York Times revealed that Damascus and its allies in the so-called “Axis of Resistance” had agreed to respond to Israel’s repeated strikes by attacking U.S.-led coalition bases in Syria.

The recent explosions at the Green Village base may have been the result of retaliatory attacks. If this is the case, the U.S.-led coalition will likely strike back soon as it did in the past.
