This group of ISIS members was eliminated during the 2017 operation to liberate the ancient city of Palmyra from the terrorist group in the Syrian province of Homs.
Russian sources claim that the terrorists were targeted by several anti-tank guided missiles launched by Russian special forces, which were supporting the advance of the Syrian Army and other pro-government units.
3 years later Palmyra is liberated, the ISIS siege of Deir Ezzor is lifted and the terrorists’ self-proclaimed Caliphate is destroyed. However, ISIS cells are still present in desert areas of Homs and Deir Ezzor provinces. These cells regularly conduct attacks on military and civilian targets on the both banks of the Euphrates. Efforts of the Syrian Army and its allies to ger rid of ISIS cells led to no breakthrough in the field because, according to the Damascus government, terrorists hide in the areas occupied by US forces.
