A group of fanatic Jihadists have released a video message threatening Russian soldiers if they approach the M4 highway in Greater Idlib.
In the message, that was shared by Syrian activists on March 17, the Jihadists vow to behead Russian soldiers on the highway as well as in the Syrian capital, Damascus, after “overthrowing” the regime.
“Here we are, the Mujahedeen, from here, from the M4 highway we say to the Turks before the Russians and the Majus [Iranians], here we are steady, waiting for the Russians and the Majus, if they came we will behead them, God willing,” the commander of the Jihadists says in the video.
The M4 highway, which links the coastal city of Lattakia with Aleppo city, is currently blocked by crowds of opposition supporters and Jihadists. This sit-in is being promoted as a civil, peaceful protest against the recent Russian-Turkish agreement on Greater Idlib. However, the truth is very clear in Jihadists’ message.
Hand by hand, the opposition supporters and Jihadists prevented Russian and Turkish forces from conducting a joint patrol on the M4 last week. Reopening the highway is a keystone of the recent agreement on Greater Idlib.
The Jihadists’ threats are nothing new. Last week, opposition activists placed a bounty for killing Russian journalists who attempted to cover joint Russian-Turkish patrols on the M4.
These provocations and threats could sabotage the Russian-Turkish agreement on Greater Idlib. This would force the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and its allies to resume military operations in the region. Some sane voices in the opposition are already warning from such outcome.
