On November 8th, fierce clashes broke out in the town of Afrin in Syria’s Aleppo governorate. According to reports, clashes broke out between the members of the Turkish-backed Al-Hamza Brigades in Jindires area of the city.
The exact reason of the clashes is yet to be revealed. Usually, disputes over criminal activities, such as smuggling, are behind such incidents.

Earlier the same day, SANA reported that Turkish-backed militants had carried out a raiding and kidnapping campaign against the locals in Afrin area.
According to the Syrian-state media, the so-called Military Police and Muhammad al-Fateh Brigade have raided several houses in Ma’amal Ushaghi village in Raju village near Afrin. During the raid, the Turkish-backed fighters opened fire to intimidate the civilians. Three men were reportedly taken to one of the militants’ positions in Raju.
A few days ago, several civilians were also kidnapped in Ma’amal Ushaghi village.
The militants are kidnapping locals on a regular basis in order to blackmail their families and demand exorbitant ransoms in exchange for their release.
The town of Afrin was captured by the Turkish military and its proxies from Kurdish forces in a rapid attack early on 2018. Since then, chaos and unrest prevail over Turkish-occupied areas in northern and northeastern Syria.
Meanwhile, Turkish military and local fighters are concentrating their forces and deploying new reinforcements in the area amid numerous reports on the upcoming Turkish operation in northern and northeastern Syria.
