Ahead of an agreed upon temporary ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) announced that it was still carrying out ground operations and strikes against the Hamas Movement and other Palestinian armed factions.

The IDF said that the 7th Armored Brigade called in a number of airstrikes overnight, against Hamas sites from which gunfire was directed at troops. Meanwhile, troops from the Givati Infantry Brigade raided the area of Sheikh Za’id, near the Jabaliya refugee camp, and destroyed a number of Hamas observation posts.

In addition, the 14th Armored Reserve Brigade carried out a raid in the city of Beit Hanoun, locating a weapons cache inside a home.

The Paratroopers Brigade’s 202nd Battalion also clashed with Hamas fighters in northern Gaza, killing several of them, the IDF said, adding that the Harel Armored Reserve Brigade struck Hamas tunnel infrastructure in the same part of the Strip.

Meanwhile, the 261st Reserve Brigade identified a building in northern Gaza with Hamas fighters and weapons inside, and destroyed it.

According to the IDF, the Navy also carried out strikes against Hamas sites along the coast, including a residential building from which Hamas snipers opened fire at ground forces.

Separately, the IDF announced that its troops have uncovered and destroyed some 400 tunnel shafts in Gaza since the start of the ground operations last month. The elite Yahalom combat engineering unit played a significant role in demolishing the tunnels.

The IDF also announced the death of another officer in Gaza, which brought the Israeli death toll from ground operations there to 69.

From its side, Hamas’ military wing, Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, released videos showing mortar attacks on IDF troops inside Gaza and the launch of several salvos of rockets at nearby Israeli settlements.

The continued fighting in Gaza comes as Israel and Hamas agreed to a temporary ceasefire to allow for the release of some of the Israeli hostages. The agreement was brokered by the United States, Egypt and Qatar.

Hamas and Egypt’s state-run Qahera TV reported that Israel-Hamas ceasefire, which is expected to last for four days, will take effect at 10 a.m. on November 23. One Israeli official confirmed the time to CNN. However, another senior official told the Axios news outlet that the timing will only be decided later.

While the temporary ceasefire will secure the release of at least 50 Israeli hostages, it can be considered a win for Hamas as 150-300 Palestinian captives will be freed from Israeli jails. In addition, the IDF will not be allowed to operate its drones over Gaza for hours each day which will help armed factions there reorganize their defenses.
