On February 19th, Russian President Vladimir Putin claimed that soldiers of Russian brigade crossed the state border in the Kursk region and entered enemy territory.
The Russian President did not clarify where exactly Russian forces crossed the border. According to some military reports, the unit in question is the 810th Brigade from Sevastopol.
According to preliminary reports from the frontlines, Russian forces launched attacks across the border from the recently liberated village of Sverdlikovo in the Kursk region and advanced towards Ukrainian villages of Novenkoe and Basovka. If confirmed, Russian offensive may be aimed at attack on the strategically important town of Yunakovka, where the main Ukrainian supply route to Sudzha is laying. Russian control of Basovka is also enough to offer a close fire control of the road.
The fact that the attack across the border was reported by President Putin may signal the beginning of a large-scaled operation on the Ukrainian territory. The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation may attempt a final major offensive in the near future amid the ongoing negotiations with Washington. Moscow repeatedly stated that there will be no territorial concessions to Kiev and Ukrainian forces will be destroyed in the Kursk region. Thus, intensification of Russian attacks in different directions around Sudzha is expected. Russian advance on the Ukrainian territory threatens the entire Ukrainian grouping in Sudzha with encirclement in another cauldron.
