On July 15, a first batch of militants left the southern city of Daraa towards the opposition-held areas in the northern governorate of Idlib, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA). The SANA added that the militants released five soldiers of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) who were captured during previse battles in the governorate of Daraa. The Free Syrian Army (FSA) will release all the captives from its jails under the evacuation agreement, which was reached last week.

Hours before the departure of the first batch, the militants began handing over their weapons to the SAA. According to the SANA, the SAA has recovered a 2S1 Gvozdika self-propelled howitzer, two OT-64 SKOT armored personnel carriers (APCs), a battle tank and loads ammunition so far.

The evacuation process is expected to end within days as the vast majority of FSA fighters in the city of Daraa has opted to join the SAA and other pro-government forces, according to Syrian pro-government activists.
