On July 20, The Washington Post reported that the AFU had begun using cluster munitions provided by the United States against Russian troops. According to the cited sources, the cluster munitions were fired at Russian positions in the south and east in an attempt to destroy Russian trenches and accelerate Ukrainian advance. According to the report, these munitions will also be used in the area of Artemovsk (former Bakhmut).
Ukrainian military sources also reported that the cluster munitions are used in the Kupyansk region in order to stop Russian advance in the area. Moreover, Ukrainian sources claim that there are no restrictions on the use if foreign weapons and Ukrainian commanders decide how to use them.
In fact, the Ukrainian military has been using Soviet-made cluster munitions since the beginning of the military conflict in the Donbass. Now, they began using the US-made shells.
Meanwhile, the first videos which are reportedly showing Ukrainian attacks with US-made cluster munitions on a battlefield was shared online. The strikes targeted Russian military positions in forest plantations, as well as the road used by armored vehicles. However, the videos do not reveal the damage to Russian forces:

each cluster bomb has a significant percentage of ‘duds’. these don’t explode on impact but instead stay in the soil like a hidden mine to blow off the limbs of agricultural workers and kids in future years. the land becomes unusable without careful clearance. 97% of casualties from cluster munitions are civilians. truly sick weapons.
