A new attack by ISIS cells has claimed the lives of five fighters of the Palestinian al-Quds Brigade, which supports government forces in central Syria.
In a brief statement released on January 16, the al-Quds Brigade said the five fighters were killed while they were conducting an operation in the al-Taiybah area, in the vicinity of the town of al-Sukhnah in the eastern Homs countryside. The group didn’t provide any further details.
The casualties were identified as Muhammad Zakaria al-Qahit, Shams El Din Essam Hajj Hassan, Muhammad Yusuf Yahya, Mahmoud Muhammad al-Alaiwi and Muhammad Nour Yasser Abu Amsha.

The London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported on January 17 a second attack on al-Quds Brigade fighters in the central region.
According to the monitoring group, ISIS terrorists targeted a vehicle of the al-Quds Brigade near the town of Madan in the southern Raqqa countryside. Several fighters were injured.
Earlier this week, units of the al-Quds Brigade, the Syrian Arab Army 5th Corps and the National Defense Forces kicked off a combing operation along the M20 highway, which links Homs with Deir Ezzor. The operation was backed by the Russian Aerospace Forces.
Despite the repeated operations by government forces, ISIS terrorists in the central region are not backing down. The terrorist group may soon once again try to attack urban centers around the region, especially in Hama and Homs.
