On November 28 morning, a landmine explosion in the disputed region of Nagorno-Karabakh claimed the lives of five Azerbaijani civilians.
“A Toyota passenger car ran into an anti-tank mine in the liberated Ashagi-Seyidakhmedli village, Fizuli region,” the General Prosecutor’s Office of Azerbaijan said in an official statement. “As a result of an accident, five Azerbaijani citizens were killed.”
There is no information indicating that the explosion was a deliberate act. Nagorno-Karabakh is still infested with war remnants from the recent battle between Armenian and Azerbaijani forces.
A Russian-brokered peace deal, that was signed on November 9 put an end to the fierce battle in Nagorno-Karabakh. 1960 Russian peacekeepers were deployed in the region to implement the deal.
Peacekeepers are supporting the work to demine Nagorno-Karabakh. According to the Ministry of Defense of Russia, 8.77 hectares of land, 2,268 km of roads and 78 houses have been cleared from mines, so far. At least 312 explosive objects were found and destroyed.
The incident in Fizuli will not likely effect the implementation of the Russian-brokered peace deal, that appears to be holding up well. Peaceful life is finally returning to Nagorno-Karabakh.

This is what happens when you litter a place with mines, civilians will continue to suffer these kinds of accidents decades down the line. To this day bombs from Vietnam war still continue to kill civilians in Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos, war is destructive and devastating for the country that experiences it.

Perhaps it would have been more sensible for Azerbaijan to have deployed mine clearance teams under the organisational control of Russian Combat Engineers and Russian Peace Keepers to the areas that Azerbaijan has taken.
Instead the emphasis is put on permanently relocating salafist Syrian fighters/terrorists, recruited by Turkey to colonise the the lands.
