Five more people were killed in Syria’s central region in two new terrorist attacks, which were reportedly carried out by ISIS cells.

On April 11, terrorists believed to be members of ISIS opened fire at a group of civilians who were collecting truffles in the area of al-Maydan to the north of the ancient city of Palmyra in the eastern countryside of Homs.

According to the London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), at least three civilians were killed in the hit-and-run attack.

Two days later, on April 13, two pro-government fighters were killed and two others were wounded when their vehicle was blown up by a landmine in the southern Deir Ezzor countryside. The fighters were conducting a patrol around the al-Taim oil fields. The landmine was most likely planted by ISIS terrorists.

The fighters were reportedly members of al-Qaterji security group, which is affiliated with the al-Qaterji Company that ships oil from Syria’s northern and eastern regions.

ISIS cells in central Syria escalated their attacks in the last few months. The terrorists killed 123 pro-government fighters and 115 civilians, mostly truffle hunters, since the start of the year, according to a recent report by the SOHR.

Syrian pro-government forces and their allies recently conducted a few combing operations in several parts of the central region to counter the terrorist group’s cells. More operations will likely be launched once the weather in the region is improved.
