Five Killed In Rare Rocket Attack On Turkish-Occupied Afrin City (Video)

Support SouthFront

On March 18 morning, a barrage of rockets struck the Turkish-occupied city of Afrin in the northern countryside of Aleppo.

The London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) claimed that the unusual rocket attack killed five civilians, including women and children, and injured fifteen others. These claims are yet to be confirmed by medical sources in northern Syria.

The attack was launched from a region in southern Afrin controlled by the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG). The Afrin Liberation Forces (ALF) are also known to be active in the region.

Exactly two years ago, on March 18 of 2018, Afrin city was occupied by the Turkish military and its Syrian proxies. Today’s attack was apparently carried out to commemorate this event.

Since the occupation of Afrin, Kurdish armed groups, especially the ALF, carried out dozens of attacks on Turkish forces in Afrin. However, heavy weapons, like rockets, were rarely used by these groups. This suggests that these groups are developing their capabilities.

Phoron

Too bad it looks like they screwed up and wasted a buncha civilians.

Hastily aimed rockets at some general area are the apex of IRL trolling.
