Five Servicemen Killed In Crash Of US Military Aircraft In Mediterranean Sea

Illustrative Image

A military aircraft of the US Air Force crashed in the eastern part of the Mediterranean Sea. Five American servicemen were killed in the crash.

According to the US European Command (EUCOM), the accident took place during exercises on the evening of November 10. The aircraft reportedly crashed during refueling in the air.

Search and rescue operations began immediately after the crash. They involved US aircraft and ships that were operating in the area. EUCOM claimed that, according to preliminary reports, the crash did not occur due to any hostile actions.

On November 11, the EUCOM reported that exercises of carrier strike groups were held in the eastern Mediterranean in the last three days. The exercises involved the ship of the US Sixth Fleet (headquarters in Naples, Italy) Mount Whitney and two Italian frigates Virginio Fasan and Carlo Margottini. In total, more than 11,000 US military took part in the maneuvers.

an american actually died? must be fake news. murican clowns only suffer “moderate injuries” and “traumatic brain injuries”, yet they always survive, after all they are muricans.

data supports a kc-135 was in the area at the time of the incident. this plane has 3 crew members. earlier reports said it was a f18 generally a 2 seat aircraft and most in line with the carrier grouping. 3 + 2 is 5 so the math adds up. waiting for radar data to be released. surely moscow has it and isn’t releasing it as they are waiting for the americans to deny the loss before submitting if it is true.

AI8UT

mh-60s are refueled by kc-130s with a long drogue hose and basket. a kc-135 would have to fly below stall speed to refuel a mh-60 and, besides, a drogue attached to a kc-135 boom will not reach the mh-60 refueling probe (and clear the rotor blades).

AI8UT

the aircraft was a mh-60 and the 5 souls lost were from the 160th special operations aviation regiment (sog), fort campbell, ky.

i’m reading different stories here and there, apparently it was a helicopter that crashed while refueling.

i heard this too. but the initial report was of an f18 though officially now is a helicopter. however, it makes more sense to have a helicopter crash rather than a f18 and kc135 in the papers. either way, someone messed up and people died. such is the way when military hardware is involved.

AI8UT

yes, the aircraft that went down was a mh-60 with crew members from the 160th special operations aviation regiment (fort campbell, ky). the five onboard the helicopter were special operations members who provide transport for commando teams (rangers, seals, etc.).
