Two Syrian Police officers were killed and three others were injured during a security operation in the district of Zakyah west of the Syrian capital of Damascus on April 23.

A local source told SouthFront that the officers were trying to apprehend a prominent militant, who had refused to join the reconciliation process. While raiding the militant’s house, his 15-year old son opened fire at the officers.

The victims were identified as Lieutenant Colonel Firas Fadih and Lieutenant Atef Jabbawi. The other three injured officers are reportedly recovering in the Mujtahid hospital.

Pro-government sources claimed that the militant and his son were arrested by the Military Intelligence Directorate (MID) while attempting to flee the town. However, SouthFront’s source was not able to confirm these claims.

The town of Zakyah was one of the strongholds of the Free Syrian Army (FSA) in the early years of the war. However, in later years most of the town’s militants joined the reconciliation process or left the town to join terrorist groups in northern and eastern Syria.
