Last night, a floating dry dock PD-50 sank at the 82nd shipbuilding plant in Russia’s Murmansk, which performes repairs on the heavy aircraft carrying missile cruiser Admiral Kuznetsov. 3 workers were slightly injured and one is missing after the incident.
According to the plant’s spokesperson quoted by Sputnik, Admiral Kuznetsov “suffered no damage after the incident”. However, the Russian-language state-run news agency RIA News reported that the PD-50’s crane fell on the Admiral Kuznetsov’s deck, which was under the reconstruction. Thus, the main damage was caused to the equipment needed to perform repairs.
Following the incident, the warship was towed to a repair yard outside the 35th shipbuilding plant in Murmansk where its repairs will continue. RIA News noted that this situation will not affect the schedule of the repairs and modernization.
The heavy aircraft carrying missile cruiser Admiral Kuznetsov is undergoing the upgrades and modernization. According to reprots, most work will be focused on the Admiral Kuznetsov’s flight deck and its propulsion systems including replacing four out of the eight turbo-pressurized boilers while refitting the remaining four.
The electronic warfare, communication, intelligence, navigation, and combat control systems may also undergo upgrades. However, there are no details on this very part of the efforts.
Missing worker = the saboteur.
possible
Or………, the dude was drunk and is now lying at the bottom of the sea?
No need to attribute to malice that which can easily be explained to ordinary human incompetence.
By your statement, everything should be explained by incompetence, which is a remarkably handy way of engaging in (((wholesale obscurantism))).
Infinitely more likely to occur then seeing everything through a lens of competent conspiracies. Have you ever observed your fellow human beings in action? When are they ever competent?
idiot!
New account solomonchik?
Russian naval shipbuilding just sucks. This incident is disgraceful. Heads should roll. But, generally, Russia just cannot or will not develop the facilities and skills to capably manufacture warships. What, it take 124 years to make one Yansen submarine. Russian missile ships are so small they could fit in my bathtub. Most of them are forever ‘under repair’, broken down and look like rusting hulks.
Get it together there Putin dude. Kick some ass and stop looking so pathetic.
ummm no not really newer Yesyent class subs take just 4 years to build sooo what is your point also how is a sub a surface ship?
No. The Yansen – which is the best sub in the world – takes much longer, as yet to manufacture. The Americans are actually pretty good at turning out their models. Plus, there are plenty of tough and good Russian military analysts who make my point much better than I have. Pull up your socks comrades.
again wrong since the last yestyen only took 4 years to build same with all Boriy class subs and the refurbishment of the Oscar and Acula classes too. So plz tell me again how are they not meeteing quotas?
Do better homeworon this. All these subs are far behind schedule. Stopped and started and stalled repeatedly. Very few are actually in service. Very nice stuff but Russian shibuilding stinks.
“ship building” and “sub building” are 2 very diffrent thigs the sub fleet is fine the surface fleet is the problem.
Good point. But then the sub fleet is so small…
small? wtf are you talking about? the US has 66 subs Russia has 62…
quality vs quantity.
very good design stuff. but they just don’t make very much of it.
Your talking about the US filled with waste abuse and fraud, further lacking innovation with regards to upgrade and repair. US fleet is ancient by comparison and new ship builds wind up closeted for inefficiencies. Russia utilizes small budget for state of the art upgrades. This loading dock sink is merely a hiccup for Russian military while US WOEFULLY unprepared to fight conventional war.
You are completely right. Yet, Russia should be admonished not to follow in the same path. To be tough about keeping good standards.
So says another alcoholic Russian troll!
Id rather be an alcoholic than be a percocet addicted fool like you.
Why (?) Russia needs an aircraft carrier with all it’s land bases is another question… The work would have been better spent upon the Kirov-class and having three nuclear powered missile battlecruisers operational, and/or producing more large missile corvettes.
“HEAVY AIRCRAFT CARRYING MISSILE CRUISER”
well that is the definition of the Kuznetzov since its not a carryer its a missile curise witch can carry aircraft and this is confirmed by its armerment it has more firepower then 3 DDG’s combined.
A definition like “Heavy Smoker” would be more close to reality.
Once again the smoke is irrelevant in this age of radar spy planes and sattelites.
Its just a cheap shot, by dumbasses
Who said anything about the radar, it’s about the engine, how about its speed? has it ever traveled into Pacific or anywhere far from home?
like these?http://www.bestchinanews.com/Military/3600.html
Exactly!
The video is an excellent and well balanced practical overview of the realities facing the Russian Fleet over the next 15 years.
at sea level you can see this thing smoking from 25 miles away, at 1000ft alt, 50 miles, stealthy it isn’t
What a morronjc thing to say….radar see it before the smoke anyways….how about focusing on a real issue instead of something that doesnt matter one bit.
Oh wait cheap uneducated shots is all you guys do.
If it has no stealth capabilties to the mark one eyeball then it has even less protection to radar numbnuts.
Stealth ships are obsolete….there are things called sattelites….they orbit wayyyy up in the sky….carriers always have eyes on them…always. and think of infra red imagery….a hot ship in cold ocean sticks out. Kinda like your morronic obsession with smokestacks….its irrelevant!!!
Gotta have satellites to use satellite technology any fucker with a pair of binoculars can see that from over the horizon and launch an attack. A hell of a lot of countries can do that.
old technique. as usual. rosted, not maintained:

this platform is pS-50, built in 1980 (ntw. in Sweden!!!) for reparation of large military vessels and submarines. Russia has also 2nd similar floating dock, PD-190 in Novorossiysk.

ouch, this is my favorite animal :D
what do you say to my new name? (in russian iit means Beat putin!)
Yeah. the Tigers been lazy for quite a while now. You also know Hungarian? Way cool.
a little.
also slovak, czech, polish, russian, german. english is second worst language what i know. actually i learn greek.
This isn’t unusual. The US Navy had a dry dock sink with a vessel inside at San Diego a few years ago.
