Former UK Ambassador to Syria and Bahrain said that the restoration of the European relations with Syria is “a matter of time only” and suggested that this may happen next year.
“We may witness the return of the British and French ambassadors to Damascus next year … The European return to Syria will be unconditional, their situation doesn’t allow them to impose any conditions,” Peter Ford added during an interview on the al-Mayadeen TV on December 30.
Ford, who is close to the family of Syria’s first lady, said that the time has come for Syria to return to the Arab league and that the U.S. can’t do anything to stop this. The former diplomat went on to accuse Qatar of funding terrorism and conspiring to overthrow the Syrian regime.
“Qatar invested in the terrorist groups in Idlib [in northern Syria] and continue to do so,” said Ford.
Ford didn’t rule out that Doha may change its policy towards Damascus in the foreseeing future.
The last few weeks witnessed a noticable improvement in Syria’s relations with the UAE and Bahrain. Both US allies reopened their embassies in Damascus. According to a recent report by the Guardian, these efforts are a part of an Egyptian-Saudi plan to restore Syria’s seat in the Arab League.

Why the hell would Syria welcome back the murderous evil psychopaths who have for the last 8 years done their level best to destroy Syria and its peoples, the whole country reduced to rubble and hundreds of thousands of Syrians dead all thanks to FUKUS axis of evil. If I was Assad I would cut all diplomatic relations with the west and look eastwards instead to China, Russia, North Korea, and the rest of the world to do business with.
They should only allow the British embassy to be built in location where there were hoax chemical attacks.
For the time being, Syria should sue for war damages from FUKUS before any restoration of diplomatic relations.
