On August 6, four Turkish soldiers and three Syrian militants were wounded when an indirect fire attack targeted a base of the Turkish military in the northern countryside of Syria’s Aleppo.
The base in question is located near the town of Inab in the Turkish-occupied area of Afrin. The attack was reportedly launched from a pocket to the south of Afrin jointly held by the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and Syrian government forces. The Turkish military and its proxies shelled the pocket after the attack. Several impacts were reported near a post of the Russian Military Police.
The attack came just a day after Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan discuss the situation in the resort city of Sochi.
This was the fourth indirect fire attack to target one of the Turkish military’s bases in the northern countryside of Aleppo in less than two weeks.
On July 24, a base located near the town of Jelbar was shelled. No casualties were reported back then. Later on July 26, a base in the outskirts of the town of Kaljibrin came under attack. This time, three Turkish soldiers were killed. On July 31, a third indirect fire attack targeted a base near the town of Sufan. Four Turkish soldiers and five Syrian militants were wounded as a result.
The July 24 and 26 attacks were both carried out by the Afrin Liberation Forces, a Kurdish guerilla group that is said to be a front of the SDF.
The recent attacks were likely an attempt to deter Turkey, whose military and proxies have been preparing to launch a new operation against Kurdish forces in northern Syria since May. Despite Russian efforts, Ankara appears to be still determined to go on with its military plans.
These Turkey bastards need to be killed like flies.
Go on killed the barbarian Turkish bastard. (liquid brain idiot) you are
