On August 31st, France is deploying its “battle-ready” nuclear-powered aircraft carrier the Charles de Gaulle to the Eastern Mediterranean.
Citing sources of the French General Staff, French media report that the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle is expected to arrive in the area soon.
The Charles de Gaulle will be accompanied by an unknown number of ships and submarines of the French Navy.
According to French media, the warship departed in full battle readiness, entirely loaded with ammunition and aircraft.
The aircraft carrier’s combat load reportedly includes a number of Rafale fighter jets, maximum-range missiles, anti-submarine arsenal, as well as advanced electronic tracking, targeting and electronic interception systems.
This is in line with a statement by French Defense Minister Florence which said that the aircraft carrier would be moving in early September.
The deployment of the French navy in the Eastern Mediterranean follows recent statements by French President Emmanuel Macron that “Turkey understands only actions.”
Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan directly threatened Greece and France on Monday, saying that “they will pay a heavy price” if it attacks Turkish ships looking for oil and gas in the Mediterranean.
“Those who think they drew a red line in the Eastern Mediterranean are challenging our country’s resolute stance,” Turkey’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
On August 28th, Macron said he had adopted a “red-line policy” in the region backing Greece against Turkey over the exploration of energy resources, wrote Turkish media.
France already has one warship in the area – it sent its Mistral-class amphibious landing helicopter dock FS Tonnerre to Lebanon in mid-August to assist with the aftermath of the explosion.
It was filled with humanitarian aid, however, it is unlikely that the ship was stripped of its weapons and all of its troops and hardware.

Did I said anything about French navy or army? They have nukes and it’s enough to make Turkey one day looser with radioactive deserts as most of it’s remaining territory. But France itself is weak because it is member of NATO. Any real action against Turkey will be stopped by the voice from Washington. I am not sure if anybody remember that yellow vests movement stared when Macron said Europe needs European army without subordination to NATO but only cooperation with it.
I don’t think that France would ever attack Turkey but I am quite sure that France would directly oppose Turkey in case of Turk attack. And I do not see any NATO obstacle in that French reaction, since Macron has already contacted Trump on that subject and Erdogan knows that he is not popular at all, at the moment. Use of nukes is exaggerating. Turkey can not attack Greece because they do not have support from anybody. So no need for empty talk on that subject. I think that France already knows that European army is needed but this EU is NOT-united. Poles and Baltic’s, Romania are basically US stooges and opponent to anything anti-NATO. US took great care that they exist and they have US support all the time to block EU actions.
The french take a lot of undeserved flak … particularly over WW2. That’s simply out of ignorance of the political situation in France and how the French soldiers regarded their leadership …. especially in light of how they were treated in WW1.
French soldiers didn’t so much give up … it’s more like they revolted against their leaders and gave up rather than fight for them. The officers didn’t help themselves with their inept tactics and would have lost against the Germans anyway but the French simply weren’t willing to die for rich cunts any more.
The root of this lies in the battle of the Somme. The French army nearly revolted during this battle in favour of communism as they felt they were being slaughtered for French imperialism and the upper classes. That feeling persisted into the second world war.
The french are smart, tough, well armed and know how to fight … provided of course they have a cause they can get behind.

The Turk navy is incredibly poor and a joke within NATO. The Charles de Gaulle is overkill – one fully armed French warship or submarine would be enough.
