The results seem to be just what the polls have predicted from the start: Emmanuel Macron versus Marine Le Pen. As if the whole campaign brought us right around to the point of departure.
I would add that a significant result of this campaign is the substitution of a new left represented by Jean-Luc Mélenchon for the totally discredited French Socialist Party, which has betrayed all the hopes of its followers by totally adopting the neoliberal economic policies dictated by the Europe Union. This is a renewed and much more vigorous and original left.

The leaders of the failed Socialist Party are rushing to find a place in Macron’s ill-defined movement, “En Marche!”
So now we are faced with the choice between a fake left – Macron – and a fake “extreme right”: Marine Le Pen.
The plain truth is that Marine Le Pen, of a younger generation than her notorious father Jean-Marie, is simply not the same politically. She has enthusiastically adopted as her main political advisor and number two in the National Front which she inherited, Florian Philippot, who comes from the patriotic socialist left represented by France’s best statesman of the past generation, Jean-Pierre Chevènement.
This difference seems impossible to explain to people who are stuck in the categories of a past that is not longer pertinent. Emmanuel Macron is an agent of the globalizing elite, from NATO to Goldman Sachs.
As President, he will confirm French subservience to European Union rules which are destroying the French economy as well as to NATO’s policy of war in the Middle East and hostility to Russia. Marine Le Pen prefers a policy of peace. I am waiting to learn from my critics how she is the “fascist” whom we must all oppose.
She will be the same as Trump. She will still help the rebels. Nothing is gonna change.
She’s just an other anti Europe populist. I used to support them , now I know they’re also full of crap. I live in the Eu and I think its fine as it is now. My only concern is the foreign policy of the Eu , their attitude towards Russia and Syria and their relationship with the Saudie’s and the qatari’s. That has to change in my opinion.
No, Le Pen is much more convicted in her beliefs than Trump is. The French government is also not in total worship of NATO and its goals, unlike the American state. Even under the current government they have cooperated to a small degree with Russia on Syria, and Le Pen would expand that considerably.
You can’t judge Le Pen on a single broken-promise by Trump. Besides it’s not like Trump has gone to war with Syria, his strike was likely just a one-off move designed to give any future threats of action (in North Korea for example) extra credibility.

The real divide is not left vs. right, that divide is dead in all but name only. The real divide is between the winners of globalization and the losers of globalization. Unfortunately neither of these groups are served well by their politicians. Those who benefit from globalization may do well now, but international capital is fickle and whatever benefits you may reap from globalization may change overnight when bankers and captains of industry decide somewhere else maybe more profitable for them. And then you join the ranks of the losers.
As for the losers, they are not served well by their new chosen leaders. For closing borders does not create wealth, does not create trade, does not create jobs. Because if all countries close their borders everybody loses. We saw that during the Great Depression. And you can’t subsidize failing industries. The UK tried that in the 60’s and 70’s and became the Sick Man of Europe.
In the end France has to become competitive again. But in a smart way. That’s also fair. Quite a miracle to ask for.
I really hope she wins, she has to win if France is to survive demographically; and therefore culturally. Macron will just accelerate France’s demographic replacement from the third-world, as he is just another nation-hating globalist.
Sadly I suspect she won’t win though, most people are too cowardly to vote against the devil they know (Macron). Plus their are too many foreigners in France who’ll always vote against ethnic French interests, in favour of their continued ‘reverse colonization’.
